Advantages: Cheap, only 70p for 6

Disadvantages: Bread stodgy, icing too sickly

I was after a dessert for after tea the other day whilst in tescos, and we always get a cheesecake or chocolate cake, something like that so I was after something a bit different, but still cheap. I saw a pack of these tesco iced finger buns, and I remember we used to have them all the time when I was little and I loved them. After tasting them years later I really don't know why I used to like them!

I bought them for just 70p, and I got 6 in a pack, so I thought this was really cheap. They are basically like the bread rolls you would use to make hot dogs with, and they have a layer of icing on the top. When I think about it, bread and icing together sounds disgusting! And these were!

The bread was just really bland and quite tough actually. It was a bit stodgy and chewy to eat, not soft and light like bread should be. The icing was quite a thick layer, and very sweet. It was too sweet, it was just sickly! But I think if they had less icing, it would be too bland eating just a bread roll, with a thin layer of icing.

I didn't enjoy these tesco iced buns, they went straight in the bin, maybe if the bread was softer and the icing less sickly, they might taste alright. I think I have seen these with lemon flavoured icing on too, not sure what these would be like!

Each iced bun contains 165 calories. Considering they are only very small, and the only sugar really is the icing, I don't suppose they are that bad for you.

They are suitable for home freezing, and for ok for vegetarians. They need to be stored in an airtight container once opened to prevent them going dry, the bread was very dry to start with on the outside anyway though.

Overall, I would not recommend these iced buns! For me the bread and icing just didn't go well together, and the bread was stodgy and chewy! I wont be buying them again!

Summary: Wont be buying again!
