“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Cereal Bars „
Finding time to eat Breakfast can be a bit of a chore, especially when you're like me and hardly ever eat before dinner time due to a groggy queasy feeling inside. However, since I started following the Weight Watchers reigeme and attempting to be a little more healthier in my ways, I have found that eating breakfast has become somewhat essential to avoid snacking before dinner and to help me feel a little more energised. Now it isn't forcing myself to swallow down a breakfast that is the problem, it is finding a breakfast suitable for my low calorie/sat fat needs amongst the shelves upon shelves of sugar laden, chocolate coated cereal items! I came across these 'Tesco Light Choices Cranberry & Blackcurrant Cereal Bars' when hunting for cereal bars in my local Tesco store that weren't filled with hidden masses of sugar, or rammed with nuts and coated in chocolate - I have allergies which makes shopping a whole bunch more difficult! Why is it so hard to find something that suits my needs and dietary requirements! I had almost given up when I spotted some rather plain looking white boxes hidden away out of eye line and luckily stumbled across these bars! These 'Tesco Light Choices Cranberry & Blackcurrant Cereal Bars' are only available to purchase in Tesco stores. The range of 'Light Choices' products are produced by Tesco for their customers that are actively trying to reduce their intake of fats, calories and making a concious effort to eat that little bit more healthily. I am openly attracted to 'Light Choices' products as they come ready stamped with a 'Weight Watchers' points value, which makes my life a whole lot easier as it means I do not have to cart my Weight Watchers points calculator out constantly. This product can be found in the aisle which houses the cereal and snack bar items. These cereal bars are to be found amongst the huge array of cereal bars carried by Tesco, but are right on the bottom shelf with various other Tesco cereal bar items. It is a basic rule that the more well known, prestigious brands (ie. Kelloggs) get pride of place at eye level on supermarket shelves - mainly due to the fact they pay to be positioned strategically - and the lesser known brands and supermarket own brands are placed on the bottom shelves. Be sure to keep a look out for these! 'Tesco Light Choices Cranberry & Blackcurrant Cereal Bars' carry a price tag of £1.50. Each box contains 6 bars. At 25p per cereal bar, I think these are a steal! Compared to a lot of other well known brand cereal bars, such as Kellogg's which can ring in at over £2.50 a box, these bars are pretty cheap and decent value for money. The packaging of this product is pretty simple and runs in line with the rest of the Tesco 'Light Choices' range. The box itself is predominantly white in colour and features the 'Tesco Light Choices' logo upon a background picture featuring a plate filled with the cereal bars. The front of the box states what the name of the product in large font, and beneath this there is a brief description of what the product is. The front of the box also states that the box contains individually wrapped bars, states the weight of the contents and features the 'nutritional information at a glance' box. The back of the box gives a description of the product, states the ingredients list, the full nutritional information chart, allergy and dietary advice and the Weight Watchers points value per serving. Each box contains 6 individually foil wrapped cereal bars. Inside the box, the sealed foil wrap of each bar is almost identical to the box, following the predominantly white colour scheme with light blue font stating what the product is. Inside the foil wrap you will find a somewhat bland looking bar, bejewelled with deep red and purple fruit slodges. The bar doesn't look extremely attractive, but from the length and thickness of the bar you can tell that it is substantial and enough to fill a gap. The oats and puffed crisp rice pieces are bound together with a shiny, sticky substance and look chewy and sweet. The cranberry and blackcurrant pieces are visible throughout the cereal bar, and just from looking at the bar you can tell that Tesco haven't scrimped on the flavour. These cereal bars smell absolutely divine. Upon opening the foil wrapper the scent immediately eminated from the bar and fills the nostrils with a sweet and fruity scent. I'm a sucker for anything sugary, and my sweet tooth was definitely eager to sink into this bar once my nose had inhaled the wonderfully sinful smell. I love the smell of blackcurrant as it is, and this is one of the main scents given off from the bar. The smell alone is enough to make you want to tuck into this bar. The taste of these 'Tesco Light Choices Cranberry & Blackcurrant Cereal Bars' is absolutely delicious! Although they don't appear much to look at, they definitely make up for it in taste. Although the bar holds itself together with ease, in the mouth they have a lovely soft and chewy texture to them. The taste is definitely one of a full and fruity flavour and both the cranberry and blackcurrant flavours shine through. The fruity flavour given off by the pieces of cranberry and blackcurrant mingles well with the sweetness of the puffed crispy rice and oats, giving a wonderful pudding type flavour somewhat similar to the way a mouthful of blackcurrant crumble tastes. There's something sinful about how deliciously sweet these bars are, enough to trick your brain into thinking you're having a naughty treat instead of a healthy choice snack. For me, these 'Tesco Light Choices Cranberry & Blackcurrant Cereal Bars' are a store cupboard staple now. With the low price, and knowing they're a healthy option, it's hard not to put them in the trolly! I can thoroughly enjoy the sweet fruity taste of these bars, safe in the knowledge that they are doing next to no damage to my waistline. Not only do these bars act as a good alternative to a bowl of cereal, they're great for when you're on the go, or simply as a mid-day snack. I use these bars as both an alternative to cereal for my breakfast and as a sweet treat to help put my cravings at bay. The flavour is enough to soothe my sweet tooth and the size of the bar is enough to fill a hungry hole. I'll definitely be sticking with these bars for the foreseeable future - Delicious! My only problem with this product is one that seems to be popular with all cereal and snack bar products. There are only six in a box, and there are seven days in a week. Drat! This seems to be an ongoing theme with this type of product which really gets on my nerves. However, cereal bars usually only come in boxes of five, so I should really be pleased that this box provides me with that extra one! I know it's all a ploy to make you buy two boxes, but it still irritates the heck out of me!
