      Deliciously healthy little fruit cakes!

We're constantly told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that the majority of snack we eat should be kept to healthy items. However, both of these things are difficult to do in our 'on-the-go' lives and the temptation of junk food all around us. I recently came across these 'Light Choices Mini Raspberry Fruit Bites' when on the prowl for healthy snacks in my local Tesco store, and they have now taken pride of place in my snack cupboard for the times I need a cheeky little nibble or a quick breakfast.

These 'Light Choices Mini Raspberry Fruit Bites' are only available to purchase in Tesco stores. 'Light Choices' is a range of low calorie and low fat foods produced by Tesco for their customers that are looking to eat healthily, reduce their intake of fats and calories, or are just looking to switch some of their fatty foods for healthier options. One of the handy features of 'Light Choices' products is that they come ready stamped with a 'Weight Watchers' points value - making it much easier for us Weight Watchers to buy products without the hassle of working out the points value ourselves.

This product can be found in the aisle which houses all the various cereal/breakfast products. The are to be found in the section that is home to the cereal bars. I found them on the bottom shelf near the end of the aisle, as big name brand products tend to be placed at eye level, and they seemed to be going unnoticed by shoppers. These are definitely worth keeping an eye out for.

'Light Choices Mini Raspberry Fruit Bites' are a steal at £1.19 per bag of 6 individual portions. At under 20p per portion, you can't really go wrong here with value for money! Cereal bars and snacks tend to now be ridiculously priced, and with 'Nutrigrain minis' as the closest product to this, and ringing in at twice the price, these mini bites are definitely worth every penny!

As stated, this product is made up of 6 individual portions of raspberry bites, all packaged in individual bags and housed within one big bag for ease of use. The packaging, as with most Light Choices products, is predominantly white in colour and baring the powder blue 'Tesco Light Choices' logo. The front of the main packaging also provides the buyer with an image of the product within, along with some brief information about what the product is, and a 'nutrition at a glance' chart. The back of the outer packaging holds all the usual information found on an edible product: a more indepth description of what the product is, nutritional information, ingredients lists, allergy advice, dietary information, contact details and a barcode. Inside, each portion of these 'Light Choices Mini Raspberry Fruit Bites' are bagged individually and the packaging is pretty much identical to the outer packaging, just smaller! The packaging for these mini bites also comes stamped with the Weight Watchers points value.

So, what are these 'Light Choices Mini Raspberry Fruit Bites'? In all honesty, they are Tesco's own version of the Kellogs Nutrigrain Minis. A mini rectangular roll of baked, cakey type pastry, stuffed with a glob of delicious raspberry jam-like filling. Divine! In each portion you get around 5 mini bites, which is more than enough to fill a hole. It may not sound or look like much, but the richness and cakeyness of the pastry is pleasantly filling and the portion size is adequet enough to beat down those hunger pangs.

Upon opening the bag of 'Light Choices Mini Raspberry Fruit Bites' I was instantly hit with the delicious cakey smell. I'm a huge fan of cake, so anything that classes as a healthy snack, and tricks my brain into thinking I'm eating something much worse for me, is a winner in my eyes! The fruit bites eminate a wonderful dessert type smell - imagine a baking jam sponge pudding - that is the aroma given off by these mini bites, which I really cannot complain about as it is somewhat heavenly when sticking to a no junk diet!

These bites may be mini, but they sure pack a punch when it comes to delivering a mouthful of delicious flavour. The outer pastry section of the mini bites has a wonderfully rich, baked, cakey flavour to it, which proves to be rather tasty as well as filling. The jam-like substance that is stuffed within carries a sweet, delicious and very fruity flavour that lingers lovingly on the tongue. Again, I hark back to the baking jam sponge pudding - the fruity bites carry this wonderous pudding taste that is made fruity and even more delicious with the addition of the raspberry filling. Yum yum! These mini bites manage to be sweet enough to cure my cravings without becoming sickly or feeling too stodgy. Some similar products, for example Nutrigrain bars, can be a bit overpowering and feel stodgy and heavy to eat, however the portion size and baked, fruity flavour of these mini bites allow them to feel a little 'stodgy' and naughty, without actually being that at all!

For me, these 'Light Choices Mini Raspberry Fruit Bites' are a great alternative to eating cereal for breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, or so they say, so when you have to be out early or are running late with no time to make breakfast, these are a fantastic option. Not only do I find these fantastic for breakfast, I also eat these as a snack throughout the day when I feel peckish and need to nibble on something sweet and filling. The 'Light Choices Mini Raspberry Fruit Bites' are a staple in my 'snack' cupboard, I'm dreadful for snacking but when grazing on these I know I'm sticking to my Weight Watchers points and doing minimal damage to my waistline! For me, the delicious baked cakey taste mixed with the raspberry filling is enough to put my cravings at bay. Sweet, filling and tasty. Yum yum!
