“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Cakes „
It was my 30th birthday and nobody had made a cake, so a trip to Tesco was made to find something delicious for a treat. I'm not supposed to eat anything with lactose or wheat in, but this does fly straight out of the window when I fancy a delicious treat (I just deal with the consequences!). There in the fridge cabinet among the cream cakes and cheese cakes lay a Tesco branded box containing Mississippi Mud Pie (560g). I'd never had Mississippi Mud Pie before but it certainly looked delicious! You might be wondering what Mississippi Mud Pie is (then again, you might not!). Well, the Tesco version is a chocolate biscuit base which has a layer of chewy chocolate brownie on with, then there's a layer of freshly whipped cream with chocolate curls on top and dusted with cocoa powder. Now, if that doesn't float your boat, I don't know what will! I grabbed the box containing the Tesco Mississippi Mud Pie (there was only 1 box left and I didn't want anyone beating me to it!) and made my way to the checkout. This Tesco Mississippi Mud Pie contains enough for 6 servings, which is just enough. I don't think you'd want too much more, otherwise it would be sickly. I won't go into the calories, sugar and fat content, because this is one of those indulgent puddings and you expect it to have a considerable amount of those things in it (which it does!). This is a treat, not an every day food item! Whilst this is obviously something that irritates my digestive system (due to all the cream and wheat in it), it is so delicious and worth the problems afterwards! I've had this Tesco Mississippi Mud Pie a couple of times now and have enjoyed every bite of it. However, it is only now that I'm writing the review that I've actually looked at the back of the box. If I had read the back of the box, I would never have picked up the Mississippi Mud Pie and I would have missed a delicious pie. Why wouldn't I have picked it up having read the back of the box? Well, while the front of the box doesn't mention it contains coffee, the back of it does and I can't stand the stuff! The back of the box describes it as "Chocolate flavoured biscuit base covered with a brownie layer and chocolate and coffee sauce topped with stabilised whipped cream, milk chocolate shavings and dusted with cocoa powder." However, I've eaten this pie twice now and not once have I noticed even the smallest coffee flavour, so I wouldn't let it put you off if you don't like coffee. So overall, and despite the coffee, I recommend giving this Tesco Mississippi Mud Pie a go if you're on the look out for a chocolatey, creamy pudding. Just £3 a box, so that's just 50p per serving!
