Advantages: cheap, taste wasn't too overpowering

Disadvantages: a bit small for using as a spoon, seemed a little stale to me

**** Before you read this, i suggested the tesco takeaway prawn crackers and i was told they were already in the database, so i am putting my review here as it is the only place it can be put ****

Browsing my local big Tesco with my son I was thinking it might be nice to have a takeaway meal, but I decided that overall they are a bit too pricey for our current budget. However, this bag of prawn crackers caught my eye on the end of the aisle with a price tag of 39p, and I decided that I could make a stir fry at home with these and we would have a really good Saturday night meal together.

The bag is a dark red design with a see through panel over one quarter of the front of the bag. The package shows a dragon and a floral pattern, which is very eye catching and attractive. Inside the pack you can see the prawn crackers, which, although smaller than the ones from the takeaways we have, are similar in appearance in terms of their slightly off white colour, and the slightly curved shape ideal for filling with your dinner. My kids seem to use them like scoops instead of a spoon.

Each actual cracker is an oval shape, about 2 inches long and one wide. On closer inspection, some were a bit yellow tinged around the edge, which wasn't enough to put me off but did look a little like they had absorbed too much oil when cooking or something similar. Each one didn't look greasy but the bag itself did have a very greasy look when it was empty.

The smell of prawns was quite nice. Not too overpowering but enough to notice it. The taste was mild, and no lasting after taste or greasy feeling in my mouth. There was enough in the bag for 4 of us to have about 8 each.

Overall opinion:
These were nice enough for a cheap alternative to having a whole takeaway experience, but I found they were a little lacking. They didn't do the whole fizzing thing that freshly cooked crackers do when they come into contact with the sauce. They seemed a little stale to me. They were also a little on the small side for my preference. However, we all ate them all without complaint, and I would buy them again for a little treat on a weekend that is not too expensive.

Nutritional information:
One pack is 40g. This equates to 220kilocals, of which 19% comes from fat which is not surprising as they are deep fried. It also contains 15% of the daily salt recommendation. This was consumed between 4 of us, so I don't feel that is too bad, although I would not want to scoff the whole pack myself.

For allergy sufferers, they contain wheat, gluten, egg and shellfish, and although they don't contain nuts this is not guaranteed.

Summary: ok for the price, just don't scoff the whole bag
