Tesco's Malted Milk Biscuits
Advantages: They taste delicious
Disadvantages: None at all
For as long as I can remember I have always liked Malted Milk biscuits. Being diabetic means I cannot just sit and eat biscuits as and when I like but I can have the odd one now and again before the gym or to treat low blood sugars. Usually I would just have whatever was in the house which was normally whatever my husband had picked up during our weekly shop. Recently when doing our shop I noticed that Tesco did their own brand of Malted Milk biscuits, I hadn't had them for several years so decided to buy a packet to see if they were as good as I remembered.
The Tesco Malted Milk biscuits come wrapped in a bright blue plastic packet, this feels a bit flimsy but is tough and does not split easy. The packaging is quite basic but contains all of the information you need to know about the product inside. The word Tesco appears on the front in white writing with Malted Milk Biscuits written just underneath in a lighter blue writing. The left hand side of the packet is take up with a picture of a pile of the biscuits, on the opposite side is all of the nutritional information. The only other information which appears on the front of the pack is the best before date in large black letters, I found this a bit odd as this normally appears discreetly on the back or side of a packet not in large letters on the front. The back of the packet contains information such as the nutritional information and the ingredients as well as any allergy advise. This information is written within white squares in black writing making it easy to read and follow.
The Malted Milk biscuits are a rectangle shape and a light brown colour. The biscuit has two rows of dots around the edge to create a border, the middle of the biscuit is take up with the raised outline of two cows, one standing and one laying down along with the words "Malted Milk" just above the two cows, the back of the biscuit is also textured all over. The biscuits have quite a creamy taste to them and to me to taste a little bit milky, they are not overly sweet in that they are sickly sweet which is what I like about these biscuits. They have a light taste and texture to them which makes them perfect for a small snack or to go with a warm drink.
Nutritional information (per 9g biscuit)
* Calories - 44
* Sugar - 1.7g
* Fat - 1.9g
* Saturates - 0.9g
* Salt - trace
* Carbohydrates - 5.9g
I was quite pleased when I read the nutritional information on the packet as the calorie content is not too high, obviously each biscuit is not overly big however compared to some biscuits the calorie, sugar, fat etc content is quite low. I have put the carbohydrates per biscuit as whilst pregnant this is something I have to keep an eye on in order to keep my sugar levels as good as possible.
I do not have any food allergies however the allergy advise is written on the back of the packet and includes
* Contains Milk, Wheat and Gluten
* Cannot guarantee nut free
The allergy advise is clearly written on the back of the packet and easy to follow
I brought my Malted Milk biscuits from our local Tesco and a 200g packet cost me just 34p and the packet contains approximately 22 biscuit. Personally I think this is excellent value and they are much cheaper than branded biscuits.
Even though biscuits don't lasting long in our house especially with Mark around I would definitely say that they are well worth the money.
I would definitely recommend Tesco Malted Milk biscuits they are ideal for the whole family and make a tasty treat. They are reasonably low in calories and are not too sweet, for me they are ideal as they do not effect my sugar levels too badly but are just enough if I need something to boost them a little. I am glad I tried these again after so long as they are just as good as I remembered and will definitely be a regular in our shopping trolley from now on.
Summary: I would definitely recomend these
