      .

Unfortunately I am back on my diet, and a cereal bar first thing in the morning is what I'm having for breakfast. I'm always on the look out for new cereal bars, or ones that are on offer, and came across these in Tesco.

A box of 6 bars costs £1.25 which is cheaper than the brand named version of these, which I would say is special K bars. Each bar is individually wrapped in a brown plastic wrapper. The wrapping isn't that nice or eye catching, but who cares. The wrapper gets thrown away anyway. They are all in a brown and yellow-ish box.

So what do they taste like and are they any good? They are alright. They are made up of flakes of cereal stuck all together with some chocolate chips mixed through the bar. Although there isn't loads of chips, there seems to be enough for a nice taste and this sweetens the bar up.

The bars only have 85 calories and 1.6g fat, so are quite good for you. They aren't the hugest bars, but the same size as other cereal bars.

I would recommend these, as they are as nice as other bars I have tried, and a bit cheaper as well. So far i've not noticed any special offer on these unfortunately, so sometimes you may get brand named bars for the same price or a bit cheaper, but these are tasty, healthy and cheap enough.

Definitely recommended as a healthier & cheaper choice cereal bar

It's good to have a light, healthier version, cereal bar that can be eaten as a quick breakfast, lunch or snack. I used to buy Special K bars but at £1.80 for a box of 6 they seemed very expencive for something that wasn't even that tasty. I came across Special Flake, a Tesco product, that was cheaper, low in fat/cals, and also tastes good!

Tesco Special Flake can be found in the healthier snack bars/cereal bars section of the supermarket. A box of 6, 126g, costs £1.25 which is at least 50p less than similar branded products. Each bar is individually wrapped in a brown plastic wrapper. There's nothing special about the packaging, just says what it is which is fine by me for the price. The product itself is made up of cereal that is 'glued' together, making it slightly crisp yet chewy. To add some flavour, each bar has chocolate chips thrown in for good measure.

Unlike Special K which I've found to sometimes taste rather stale and hard, these are slightly chewy and not dry. The cereal has a fairly plain taste to it so there's not much not to like about it, that said, with the chocolate chips it has an extra hint of sweetness. I actually really like the taste of these, but it's the general texture that makes them nice to eat. They don't skimp on the chocoolate chips either; I would say there's just enough to add taste without making this the same as an unhealthy chocolate snack. They're very lightweight and don't sit heavy in your stomach, but they're decent sized bars - I just measured one (yes, I'm sad) and it's 9cm in length, 3cm wide and 2cm in depth.

These bars are on the healthy side too, with only 85 calories and 1.6g fat each. They also promote their health benefits by noting on the front of the box that they contain added vitamins and iron. Each bar provides 21% of your RDA for Vitamin E, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Vitamin B6 & B12, Folic Acid and Iron, amongst others.

Overall I would definitely recommend these. You don't need flashy packaging advertising a miracle 'low fat' bar as these tend to have more fat/cals and cost more... cheeky advertising in my opinion. Tesco Special Flake Choc Chip cereal bars are a good price, tasty, decent size and have their healthy positives so they get a thumbs up from me! :o)
