Tesco Strawberry Ring Doughnuts
I don't know why but if something is not good for my health then I will most definitely like it. Doughnuts have to be the most unhealthy food on the planet. They are essentially deep fried bread with icing or decoration. As I am young I never seem to worry about the future because I always think that this a long, long, long way to go yet. But I know that if I look after myself at this age then I am more likely to be in better health when I am older. This is why I have decided to cut back on all foods that are high in sugar and saturated fats. Fat + sugar = very easy weight gain for me (unfortunately).
These are Tesco bakery doughnuts and come in a pack of 4, in a see through plastic container. The container holds the doughnuts so that they are upright and they don't touch one another. The container can be resealed so you don't have to eat all 4 in one go, but it isn't reusable as I can't see any use for this funny shaped container.
They smell soooo good. They smell like strawberries and for me this is what makes my mouth waster. Also I find that the smell gives the doughnut a better taste. These doughnuts are not as greasy as krispy kremes and they are a lot less sugary. They taste sweet but not sugary and so wouldn't satisfy those with a sweet tooth. The sweetness comes from very thin layer of icing and sprinkles on top of the doughnut. Krispy kremes in my opinion are so greasy and sugary but the bread tastes good. These doughnuts have a really spongy and light bread and a mild sweet flavour. This is why they taste much better, in my opinion to krispy kremes.
The nutritional information is not good at all because one doughnut contains 6g of saturated fat, 10g of sugar and 230 calories. This is really a treat that should be eaten as part of balanced meal because there is no nutritional benefit from these doughnuts. They will contribute to the majority of a person's saturated fat allowance. It is good as a treat but not a regular one. I do think though these are better than krispy kreme doughnuts which are overloaded with fat and sugar.
Availability and price
Available from Tesco stores only since it is a Tesco product at £1.10 (at the time of writing) for a pack of 4 which is equivalent to just under 30p for one. Given that these contain less sugar and fat compared to krispy kreme doughnuts and they taste better (in my opinion), I think that this is not a bad price at all.
I am a huge fan of doughnuts, but I do not like the jam, I am wierd I know! Therefore I am always after doughnuts with a hole in, and a lot of supermarkets sell their own brand version of these. The best ones are the ones freshly baked in the supermarkets own bakery. Nothing can beat those as they are light and fluffy and taste so fresh. It makes my mouth water just at the thought of them! Now not all supermarkets are big enough to have their own bakery on site, and the doughnuts sell pretty quickly when they do have one on site, but these are the next best thing if you are desperate for a doughnut fix!
Tesco strawberry ring donuts come in a plastic box of four. The packaging is clear and 100% recyclable which is always a bonus for me. The sell by date is never long after you buy them so make sure you are either very hungry, or have lots of people around you to help you out with eating them!
They are ring doughnuts. The doughnuts themselves are plain doughnut flavour (don't let the name fool you) but on the top is thick pink icing with lots of sprinkles on. The icing itself is the strawberry part to the doughnut.
The doughnut is light and fluffy (although not quite as much as the fresh ones, but I am just being a perfectionist here!) and the sweet icing and the soft donut compliment each other well. I think the topping is very atrificially strawberry in taste and both together are incredibly sweet, but they indulge my sweet tooth very well.
These doughnuts are reasonably priced sweet treats, they do not last long, but taste very good!
Warning-not to be eaten if on a strict calorie controlled diet!
