Disadvantages: I'm not keen on the bourbons!
When it comes to biscuits I really do try hard not to buy any! This is due to me living alone and 9 times out of 10 getting bored and scoffing them all to myself of an evening lol. However from time to time I like many people do treat myself and if having guests over then I feel its important to be able to offer something with a cuppa (must be the West Midlands coming out in me!).
These I bought for £1. 29 in my local Tesco store. A large pack offering 5 packets of biscuits within it for that price I thought was great value for money and gives a bit of variety too and I know from eating Tesco Value biscuits in the past that I like them so I thought why not....especially when I spotted that these have two packets of Malted Milk in them which is a top fav of mine!
Well these are no longer simply called Tesco Value they are now called Tesco 'Everyday 'Value since the brand has undergone somewhat of a transformation. The cheaper more garish and stand out packaging that was 'Value' is now of better quality and more subtle which I actually really do appreciate. There was nothing like being on a tight week financially and going through a check out with only Value products all sticking out like a sore thumb...now we can do it a little more quietly!
These come in a white plastic cover which is large and oblong and with a photograph of the biscuits on the front of it and we are told that they are Tesco Everyday Value Biscuit Barrel Selection 'Bourbon Cream, Nice, Malted Milk And Custard Cream' and that they contain no artificial preservatives, flavours, colours or hydrogenated fat and there are little pictures of cups and spoons and biscuits on there too as well as an at a glance nutritional chart. On the back of the packet ingredients are listed for each biscuit as well as a nutritional chart, the size is stated which is a whopping 900g of biscuits and contact details for Tesco's are given. This is a very thin wrapper and tears ever so easily but luckily there are 5 individually wrapped packs of biscuits and they are all in clear plastic.
What you get is 12 custard creams, 12 bourbons, 25 nice biscuits and 2 packs of 23 malted milks. That is a whopping 95 biscuits for the price of £1.29! I think that is amazing value for money and particularly as these are such great quality and fabulous tasting biccies!
Oblong and slightly golden in colour with a picture of a cow on each one and we are told what they are on each one as well actually, these are not brill for dunking in hot drinks as they do cave in really easily however they are crunchy if not wet, creamy and nicely sweetened. I love the Tesco Everyday Value malted milk anyway and these are the same as those so thumbs up from me on these and these of course you get the most of in the way of packs of these too which I really appreciate!
Again these are oblong, golden and with the word Nice on top with a small sprinkle of white granulated sugar on the top these are tasty sweet and lovely and light but still crunchy biscuits. Again not so great for dunking but they are nice as the name aptly suggests lol!
Square shaped biscuits, which are golden biscuit sandwiches with a pattern to each one of the tops of the biscuits and us being told what they are they have a generous dollop of glue in the way of custard within each one. Nicely and naturally sweet these are once again and I love the crunchiness of these even when dunked and yes you can dunk these in hot drinks for a second or two before they go too soggy though do be aware they do create a scum in the cup as they do melt slightly!
Again each of the bourbons are two dark brown chocolate coloured oblongs of biscuit stuck together by chocolate cream. Very crunchy and not all that sweet these are actually my least favourite of the biscuits though with Bourbon written on each they look nice enough its just to me they lack a sweetness I'd appreciate and a creaminess but they are ok and strong enough like the custard creams to give a little dunk to!
All in All:
Like I have already said I think these are a superb selection of biscuits. Ok they are the basic type of biscuits but they are all good quality and tasty enough and for me and I like the choice and the fact there is loads of them and I don't have to empty out the whole lot onto a plate if I have guests, I can hold back and keep fresh some of them by not taking them out of their packets. Lovely buy, can't get over the price still and I will certainly be repurchasing them in the future without a shadow of a doubt!
Nutritional Information Per Biscuit (Average):
