Tesco Value Chocolate Chip Cake Bars
Advantages: Nice for a snack and packed lunches.
Looking for a nice treat for my little grandson is always on mind when I am shopping. When I saw these cake bars I thought I would give them a try because they were quite cheap. They are from the Value range from Tesco's and have very basic packaging.
They come in a cardboard box, there are 5 bars in the box of which they are all individually wrapped in a transparent plastic wrapper. They are oblong shape and measure approximately 3 inches in length, 1 and a half inches in width and an inch in depth. So a brilliant size for the price of just 50p for the pack of 5.
They are a sponge cake with chocolate chips, there are quite a lot of chips in the bar considering the size of them. I tried to count them in one of the bars I ate and I could roughly count around 10 or so. The chips are soft and quite tasty and do not taste bland. The sponge is light and fluffy for the price and I was amazed how nice these bars taste for just 50p. They have a soft texture and they are very easy to chew and swallow. My little grandson can easily hold these bars and swallow them with no problems at all. They are also very moist bars and not dry and ones that are too dry they stick in the throat. These bars have a super moist taste and the chocolate chips in the sponge give for a really nice taste. The chips are a good texture too and so it is not just the sponge that is soft, it is also the chips. No point having a nice soft sponge if the chips are hard. With these bars they are both soft.
I think these are very good quality bars, they are excellent value for money in my opinion. They are just the right size for a snack and very filling until a main meal time. They are easy to cut with a knife if you want to eat them sliced as a sponge pudding. Because they are individually wrapped it did mean that I could save a some for a later date. When I first bought them, myself and my grandson ate one each. He loved them and so when he came for his tea one night I decided to myself and my hubby and grandson could all eat the cakes for a pudding with custard over the top. The custard and cake work well together and make for a really, cheap nice pudding.
They are not as sweet as I first imagined they would taste when I bought them. I thought they would maybe have a sickly taste but I couldn't have been far wrong. These have a really nice taste with a just a nice amount of sweetness for a cheap cake bar.
They would be excellent for packed lunches because of the wrapper, the wrapper keeps them nice and fresh until lunch time. They are ideal for picnics and even parties. I think Tesco's have produced a really lovely cake with this product. They certainly have the price and quality spot on and with a nice taste too.
Each bar contains 120 calories, 7g of sugar and 5g of fat.
These bars work out at just 10p each and for that price I just think they are so affordable if you are wanting a little cake and just want an individual bar and nice a slice from a large cake. They are best stored in a cool dry place to keep them nice and fresh.
I would not hesitate in recommending these cakes, I think they are suitable for all budgets but especially anyone on a low budget to help save some money, especially if they have a large family and lots of children. For 50p I just think they are a give away price in my opinion.
I will definitely buy these again in the future because they give me all the taste that I expect from a shops own brand of chocolate cake bars.
It tells me on the box that these are suitable for vegetarians too.
The packaging is also recyclable after use.

I give these 5 stars.
