'Malt loaf is a common snack food in the United Kingdom. Malt loaf has a sweet taste and a very chewy texture like very heavy, soft bread. As you may see from a previous review I am a fan of Malt Loaf and usually buy the Soreen variety, however when I was doing my shopping the other day I spotted that Tesco's did one. I had a quick look at the packet and the product looked pretty much the same as my regular brand so I decided to give it a go, after all if it turned out to ... Read the complete review

I love malt loaf, as does my son, and we often have a slice or two with a smear of butter as a healthy snack. Not only does it contain fruit which is great for energy, but it tastes yummy as well. Back in the old days (when I was a kid) you could only really get Soreen, but this is a really great alternative, especially as it ... Read the complete review

There's somethign about Malt Loaf. Maybe it's the name.Maybe it's the fruit. Who knows? Anyhow, for some reason having a slice of malt loaf seems so much better for you than a slice of chocolate cake for example! Of course, rationally I KNOW it is packed full of sugar, but still I choose ot gloss over that fact, and buy and eat Malt Loaf ... Read the complete review

The Value range is Tesco's basic, cheap range of products. *Product* Here we have the Value Malt Loaf which is fruited. Malt Loaf in general is described as being a sweet tasting a chewy textured snack and is like a heavy yet soft loaf of bread. It is put together mainly with malt and fruit such as ... I was chatting away with my mum the a couple of weeks ago about my Gran and what a good cook she was and how she would often treat us to some good home made pies and cakes but one thing that she would always go out and buy was a Malt Loaf. Having decided to go on a economy drive, we have been trying lots of value products some with success, some without. This malt loaf certainly is a winner in my view. After normally buying the branded malt loaf, I decided to give this a go, with a vast difference in price- around the 20p mark for a loaf. The loaf is ... Read the complete review

I think Malt Loaf is a proper weird food, it's like Jaffa Cakes in a way because I never know whether it's a loaf or a cake and can eat it both ways! We normally buy Soreen but last week they only had the double packs of that one in and that would be a waste for us because we don't eat it a lot as a family and even part of ... I grew up in Preston and in those years malt loaf was something my mum used to dish up - except that she didn't call it malt loaf. "D'ya want some claggy?" She would offer when my brother and I came in from playing in the fields. The answer was invariably yes (as we were scrawny little scraps who were always hungry ... Read the complete review

Visiting Grandma on a Sunday, always consisted of "High Tea" at about 4pm. Hard boiled eggs, silverskin onions, sliced meat, buttered finger rolls, chocolate eclairs and Mr Kipling fondant fancies......and malt loaf with a slab of butter on each slice. All served on the Sunday best china, with doilies where appropriate, and ... Read the complete review

Undoubtedly it was the price that first drew our attention to this loaf, and if you can find it, conveniently nestled in at the bottom of the shelf almost hidden from view, I highly recommend you try it. Coming in at an astonishingly cheap 18 pence (at the time of writing), there is an immediate "buy me" appeal of ... Read the complete review

When I saw that Soreen Malt Loaf was on offer in Tesco this week at two for £1 I thought I'd get away with it but no, the Mrs insisted that I had to try value malt loaf as part of our economy drive too. I was not amused, what's wrong with 50p for a nice malt loaf?!! This cost 18p though which I suppose is a lot less in the ... Read the complete review

My 4 year old son has a strange obsession with Malt Loaf. Normally, we buy brand names for things he eats, as we feel he needs the necessary quality food while he is young to give him the best nutritional start possible. However, we decided to give this a go as a one off just to see what it was like, and if indeed he liked ... Read the complete review

I would never have bought this but tried it at a friend's house. It wasn't half bad! I probably still wouldn't choose to buy it but I wouldn't turn my nose up if it was offered to me. It is really tasty! It is quite a sticky loaf, which I really like. It is also very dense and pretty filling. There is not as much fruit in ... Read the complete review

I decided to buy this malt loaf after reading some reviews of it on this site. I have tried quite a few of Tesco's Value products, and have generally been very pleased and satisfied with them. Tesco Value Malt Loaf comes in a white wrapper with the usual Tesco Value red and blue markings on it. I have been trying out a few value things recently with the credit crunch and also because I think it's fun to see what you can buy cheaply. It's not quite so vital in our house to be as frugal as we once were as we are down to 3- but not so long ago the walls were brimming with 9 people here sometimes when I think this malt loaf would ... One of the gems I've discovered in the Tesco Value range is their version of a malt loaf. Its packet is certainly not as pretty as the lovely Soreen wrapper, but at 18p per loaf I can forgive them for keeping the look simple. Bearing in mind my usual Soreen costs 85p, I definitely had to give this product a try as this is a fantastic ... Read the complete review
