Bagels are no longer just a food for New Yorkers or those of Jewish descent. They have now become a fairly mainstream food in this country with them being sold in supermarkets as well as in pop up speciality bagel stores where the smell coming out of them is delicious!!

For those of you who are not familiar with bagels, I quote an article from the Internet, "a bagel is a bread product traditionally shaped by hand into the form of a ring from yeasted wheat dough, roughly hand sized, which is first boiled for a short time in water and then baked. The result is a dense, chewy, doughy interior with a browned and sometimes crisp exterior.

I absolutely bagels. If I was going to have one for my breakfast my absolute favourite would be a toasted blueberry bagel with cream cheese but for everyday regular bagels these ones from Tesco's are great.

These bagels are just plain but do have quite a golden look to them suggesting to me that they have been made and prepared properly. The bagels come in a pack of 5 and cost just £1.25 which I think is quite a good price for a bakery product. These plain bagels are great as you can really jazz them up for lunch. For example, two of my favourite ways to serve them are either with scrambled egg and tomato sauce or with som smoked salmon and herbs, yummy. The nice thing about these is that they are nice just plain too. I always find the Tesco's bagels to be quite moist and chewy, just like a bagel should be. However, if it's just me eating the bag of 5 as my husband doesn't really like them by the time you get to the end one it's not as chewy as it could be and I find it's better to have this one toasted with some butter and jam as then it will not taste too old or stale.

Bagels are not the most healthiest of bread product and one of these bagels has 225 calories but for a nice lunch time treat now and again they are great.
