==Background:==
When I was a little boy shortbread was a real treat, in fact we only had it at Christmas. These days it certainly feels more affordable and when I was in my local Tesco's I couldn't resist buying a couple of packs of their own Shortbread Fingers.
==Price:==
I paid just 13p for a 125g packet, which compares very favourably to the other branded packets on sale. As you can pay well over a £ for a similar item, with the specialist and one presumes quality tasting ones several pounds.
==Packaging:==
The shortbread comes in a rectangular packet. It is not particularly noticeable but has the recognisable value logo on it. The idea behind these value products is inexpensive products, which do not waste money on advertising or packaging. To be honest this looks quite basic, with its dark blue border and a picture on the front of the shortbread fingers.
While on the reverse you have all the ingredients, allergy advice, nutritional information and storage details. I like the fact the product has easy to tear ends so that you don't have to struggle to open it.
Inside I discovered 10 individual shortbread fingers, which were 7cm long by 2cm wide and a depth of 1cm. What surprised me was I did not have break them up as that was already done for me.
==Taste:==
I put the fingers on a plate and offered them round when a couple of friends came round for coffee. As I did I vaguely noticed a sweet floury smell that reminded me of oats and biscuits. It was pleasant and the look of the fingers reminded me of the type we had years ago as a Child.
When I bit into the finger it had a sweet but quite dry biscuit taste. I could certainly taste the flour immediately. It was quite crunchy and a very pleasant taste, although I must admit after a few mouthfuls my mouth was dry and I needed a coffee to wash it down. I found the biscuit crumbled sweetly in my mouth with an aroma of butter adding to the flavour.
==My opinion:==
I really believe this product constitutes excellent value for money and you could not find better value than these. Yes admittedly when on sale in the store they are not the most eye catching, as they look a little sad and bland against the branded and more colourful ones.
However the proof of the pudding is in the eating or so they say. I found the Shortbread Fingers to be of good quality, each finger seemed well produced and did not break or crumble in transportation on when I put them out for my friends. Not only that they looked good quality too, with an effective design and even sugar on the top of each one.
Taste wise I would say they were very pleasant. I enjoyed the fact they were well made and were quite crunchy to the taste. I felt the taste was good rather than a quality one, it truth for me they were a little bit bland in flavour and quite dry. I found they definitely needed a drink with them to help wash them down.
The product has a good shelf life mine was six months. That is because it is stored within an air-tight package that prolongs the life of the shortbread. It surprised me that this product was not higher in calories or sugar content as it tastes to me very sweet, so that was a pleasant discovery. The allergy advice from Tesco is the product contains: milk, wheat, and gluten. And while it contains no nuts they cannot guarantee it is not nut free.
Nutritional advice:
Each shortbread finger contains:
Calories: 65
Sugar: 2.1g
Fat: 3.3g
Saturates: 1.9g
Salt: Trace
==Conclusion:==
I will definitely be purchasing these again. For me they constitute very good value for money, while the taste was good if a little dry after a few bites. I found the blend between the flour, butter, wheat and sugar to be exactly right and when dunked in my coffee I found them super. . They were presented well and my friends never guessed I was giving them value shortbread until I admitted it after the plate was empty.
Thanks for reading my review
