Tesco Value Tortilla Chips
Advantages: Great flavour and taste. Cheap price.
Why did I buy these?
I thought I would give these a try after reading a couple of reviews which all said they were very tasty! I'm a big fan of Dorito's and tortilla chips in general, but some brands can be very costly, and I'm always looking to save money wherever I can. I thought that these might make for a cheaper alternative.
Taste and Appearance.
Tesco's calls these chips 'lightly salted' but I actually found them to be rather salty, which I actually really like on occasion! They definitely don't lack for flavour, and I think they are comparable to the plain version of Dorito's - in fact there's barely any difference at all. I found them to be extremely moreish as I was eating them, and had to force myself to put the packet back in the cupboard! I wonder if it's probably the salt content that makes these crisps so addictive - but whatever it is, I really enjoyed them! They have the traditional triangular shape, and I thought they had a nice golden colour to them, so all in all they looked very attractive. I also found that they had an excellent crunch, which is something I enjoy. Sometimes when I buy bags of Dorito's, they don't survive the journey home very well, and I end up with lots of broken chips, but that isn't the case with these.
Tesco's seems to be in the process of re-branding their value range, and it is now called 'Everyday Value' - they seem to have jazzed up the packaging a little, and now these have some subtle illustrations on the front of the packaging. The bag is still see-through though, so you can actually have a look at the product you are buying, and it is quite long and slim compared to the Dorito's bags.
These chips are an absolute bargain, which is one of the main reasons that I bought them in the first place. They cost just 46p for a 200g bag, which seems to contain loads of tortilla chips! I've been buying these for the last couple of weeks when I go and do my big shop at Tesco, and I can see them becoming a cupboard staple.
These chips are suitable for vegetarians. A 25g portion contains 120 calories, 5.0g of fat, and 0.2g of salt. They probably aren't the healthiest option available, but I don't think they are the worst either, so I would say these are ideal as a treat.
Maize Flour, Sunflower Oil, Salt.
I was really pleased that I decided to give these a try, they are much higher quality than I was originally expecting. I think they would be ideal for serving at party's with a few dips, or maybe for a dish such as nachos.
Summary: A great value bag of tortilla chips.
