Advantages: Look nice, cheap
Disadvantages: Biscuit part not all that great
Knowing my parents were arriving today for a weeks holiday to where I live not only have I gone cleaning crazy but had to stock up on a few nice edible bits and pieces. Not being made of money at all and living on a strict budget (like many of us have to now!) I was concerned about getting my money to stretch as far as I need it to go! I knew I wanted to get some biscuits and cakes in and so looked at what Tesco's had on offer under their own brand.
These I spotted at only 89p a box of 6 of them. In a nice bright pink box we are shown the 'whirls' on the front of it and told what they are and an at glance nutritional chart is shown. On the back of the box other information listed includes ingredients and allergy advice being given as well as a full nutritional chart being shown and contact details for Tesco are of course given. Inside the whirls rest in a red plastic tray securely and all in all this is nice enough packaging.
The Whirls:
Well in appearance they are a baked looking golden shortcake biscuit, well you get two round biscuits, raised in places to give a whirl appearance and sandwiched together with raspberry jam and white buttercream.
They look really nice and are of a good size however I wasn't really very keen on these at all. The shortcake was really gritty and bitty and just as not as smooth and buttery as I would have appreciated. The red jam could of been any flavour really and I only know it was raspberry since writing this review and reading that it is on the front of the box to be honest as I had assumed it was strawberry though it was pleasant enough, set and plentiful and not too sweet. The buttercream melted in the mouth and did have a sweet buttery flavour that complimented the rest of the flavours very well indeed though to be fair.
Not messy to eat these do provide a decent sized mouthful but for me the biscuit part of the whirls really did let the whole thing down!
