Tesco Wheat Biscuits
Advantages: A great chepaer alternative to Weetabix
Disadvantages: A little something not quite right
This is Tesco's own branded alternative to Weetabix, costing considerably less. Once again Tesco have come up with a product that rivals the leading premium brand in everyway. When you find this on the supermarket shelf you could almost be fooled into thinking it was a box of Weetabix. The box is the same distinctive yellow colour and there is a large picture of the actual product - two of the wheat biscuits in a bowl of milk and brightened up with some rather scrummy looking fruit. Visually the look exactly the same as Weetabix would.
I had alway resisted these until recently. While I am more than willing to drop down a brand on most products I am somewhat reluctant when it comes to breakfast cereals. I am not naturally a breakfast cereal girl, to be honest if I could really choose it would be thick buttered marmite toast for me every day. A couple of years ago to try and shift some baby weight, I did shift to cereal and Weetabix has become one of the few that I actually really enjoy.
Therefore I was unwilling to try a cheaper alternative, just incase they didn't quite live up to scratch. Curiousity did get the better of me though and I thought I'd might as well give them a go, and hey... if I didn't like them I'm sure the girls would polish them off.
Costing only £1.19 for a box of 24 biscuits, they are a good 50 cheaper than the real deal, so it really is a considerable saving. Ok.... so how did they do? Well I popped two in a bowl and when you see them in the flesh they do look exactly the same as Weetabix. I added some hot milk and a sprinkling of sugar and then down the hatch they went.
Admittedly, they tasted great, the same wheaty flavoursome taste and the same texture. They were satisfying and really enjoyable. There was a little something that wasn't quite right but that could be purely psychological and me being a brand snob. Overall another great offering from Tesco's, I will definately buy again.
Summary: A fab affordable cereal
