Breakfast cereal is something I always have in the cupboard as both Mark and myself eat breakfast everyday and most days its a bowl of cereal with either hot or cold milk. I have recently been trying Tesco own brand cereal and have been really pleased with it, I'm currently using their Wheat Biscuits, their own version of Wheatabix. My local Tesco has them in packs of 24 or 48, I usually opt for 48 as it works out fractionally cheaper.
The Wheat Biscuits are sold in a yellow and orange box with the Tesco logo and Wheat Biscuits on the front. The box also informs the customer that these are made from whole grain, have low fat, are a good source of fibre and have been fortified with vitamins and iron. The box also displays the Healthy Eating logo and shows a serving suggestion for the cereal.
The GDA's are given on the front of the pack, these are given per 2 biscuits and are:-
Calories-- 135
Sugar--1.7g
Fat--0.8g
Saturates-- 0.2g
Salt--0.3g
The nutritional values are given in more detail on the side of the box for those who wish to look, the ingredients and allergy advice is also given on the side of the box, the allergy advice being that the product contains wheat, gluten and barley and Tesco cannot guarantee that the product hasn't come in contact with nuts despite being made in a nut free factory. The side of the box also states the Wheat Biscuits are suitable for vegetarians.
The biscuits are in the box in packets of 12, to be honest they look pretty much the same as Wheatabix, same colour and size but they do look slightly courser in my opinion. I always have 2 biscuits with either hot or cold milk and to be honest there's not a lot of difference taste wise between these and wheatabix either. They have a lovely crunchy texture and a lovely wheaty taste. I personally think these biscuits are quite sweet and rarely add extra sugar but this is just my personal taste, my husband Mark always has sugar on his but either way I really like them.
Once milk has been poured over them I don't think they break down as smoothly as wheatabix they are slightly courser in texture but personally I like this.
I love to bake and have used these when making biscuits or cereal bars, also crushed up and added to crumble topping makes a nice crunchy topping to apple crumble.
If you eat this type of cereal or use it in baking then I would certainly recommend giving Tesco Wheat Biscuits a try, they cost £1.48 for a pack of 24 and £2.95 for 48. In my opinion they are really tasty and good value for money.
Summary: A good way to start the day
