Advantages: Cheap and tasty. As long as you demonstrate self control they can be good as an occasional treat!

Disadvantages: Sometimes the mallow filling isn't as soft as I'd like.

Contrary to popular belief Tunnock's Tea Cakes are not tea flavoured cakes. They are in fact marshmallowy goodness encased in milk chocolate with a soft biscuit base, and many people enjoy them with a cup of tea. They are absolutely delicious! Anyone who has ever eaten a Tunnock's Tea Cake will tell you how more-ish they are. One just feels so insignificant when you are sitting with a box of six.

These can be bought in every supermarket and most local shops in Scotland. I think they're pretty widely available in the rest of the UK, though I can't be sure. Tunnock's is of course a Scottish company. These Tea Cakes come individually wrapped in silver and red foil, and even when you're finished eating a Tea Cake (which takes all of about ten seconds if you inhale them like I do) there's plenty of fun to be had making mini things out of the wrapper. I may have even got my origami book out for inspiration when stuck for ideas.

On days where I want to spend a little more time eating my Tea Cake I bite all the milk chocolate off, then eat the marshmallow inside, before finally eating the biscuit base. Mmm. I have tried eating the biscuit before the mallow, but it leaves me with VERY sticky fingers. Alternatively you can eat them like a normal person, biting through each layer.

A box of six costs about £1. I think this is a good price for a quality product. Sometimes they can be a little hit and miss. I prefer a really soft, gooey centre and sometimes the mallow is a little more solid. I'll still eat them, don't get me wrong, but I prefer buying a box and finding that the middle is lovely and fluffy. You can also buy these in a dark chocolate variety. Not as good, but still tasty.

Tunnock's Tea Cakes are quite sweet, but not at all sickening. They come in at 106 calories, which isn't bad for a treat, but it's really difficult to only eat one, so calories can mount up quickly.

Summary: Makes me proud to be Scottish :)
