“ Brand: Waitrose / Type: Cake „
We were browsing Waitrose the other day for a sweet treat to have after our dinner. I was drawn to the cake section as we have had numerous Victoria Sponges from Waitrose before and they have always been very tasty and good value for money. I spotted this Belgian chocolate cake and because I know my partner likes chocolate cake I decided to get this one as a change to the usual. It cost just £1.99 for a cake which feeds 6 people. I thought this was quite good value for a quality cake from Waitrose. The cake comes in a nice brown coloured box and you can see the cake through a window at the top. It looks very appetising and the packaging is nice enough to give it to someone as a small gift aswell. Getting it out of the box the cake looked really nice, it was a good size and could feed 6 people. It was covered in chocolate frosting and there were some nice chocolate curls on the top to set it off. One thing I did think was that with there only being 2 curls it might cause an argument within families over who was having them! I cut myself and my partner about a sixth of the cake each and this was a decent sized portion. The cake was light and fluffy and the frosting was creamy and fresh. This is a sandwich type cake where there is frosting in the middle and on the top of the cake. Biting into the cake it tasted very chocolatey! The sponge was light and soft and it had a nice fresh flavour to it. There were chocolate chips throughout the sponge which added to the texture and these also had a nice flavour. The frosting tasted really fresh and not at all artificial, it was rich and very creamy which was really nice. Together the frosting and the sponge tasted really nice. It was very chocolatey and it all went together well! The sponge lasted well, we wrapped it up and it kept fresh for a good 2 days which was nice as we couldn't eat a whole cake to ourselves! We really liked this cake and we will definitely buy this again. It is good value for money and tastes very very nice!
