Walkers Doritos Tangy Cheese Flavour
Advantages: Taste great, great for dips..
Disadvantages: None for me!
I adore crisps and regularly buy a selection of different kinds from assorted brands. I also enjoy eating crisps with dips and I think there are specific crisps that go really well with dips and salsa, one of which is "Doritos", which is a well-known brand of corn chips that are similar to tortilla chips.
You can buy Doritos in a variety of flavours, such as 'Cool Original' and 'Lightly Salted' as well as the 'Tangy Cheese' variety that I am reviewing here. The bags are available to buy in large bags that are 225g in size, but you can also buy multi-packs, containing six individual bags of Doritos chips. I generally buy my bags individually from a local grocery store, however, and these are smaller bags that are 40g in size. I pay around 60 pence for my bag, a price that I think is fairly average.
The packaging consists of a bag that is fairly standard for crisps nowadays, consisting of a bag which is foil-backed which I believe helps in keeping crisps and snacks fresh and dry. The Doritos brand is quite a recognisable one as far as I am concerned, and the brand logo is not difficult to spot on the shop shelf, thanks to the bright colours of blue and white that are emblazoned across the top of the bag. The bags vary in colour depending which of the Doritos flavours you are purchasing, and in the case of the 'Tangy Cheese' flavour, this is bright orange.
The crisps or 'chips' themselves are a sort of large triangular shape, and are quite rough in their texture. This is not a negative point at all, as the pointed edges of the chips make them ideal for dips and salsa as I touched on previously. I find that tortilla chips and Doritos have a very satisfying 'bite' to them as they are quite hard and crunchy, especially when compared to 'regular' crisps.
There is a thick coating of orange-coloured powder evident on the cheesy-flavoured Doritos, and it is quite noticeable as soon as you remove one of the triangular chips from the bag. The coating of powder is in fact the cheesy Doritos' flavouring and the appearance of this powder gives the impression that the chips are not going to be lacking anything in the flavour department..... This impression is absolutely spot on in my opinion and I always find the Doritos to be extremely tasty!
The cheesy flavouring is not at all over-powering, nor is it too strong for my own tastes. Some brands of cheese-flavour crisps - and especially those at the cheaper end of the market - can be quite over-bearing in my opinion, but in the case of the Doritos, the flavour is absolutely spot on in terms of its strength. I find that the cheese flavouring is very tasty and quite satisfying really, without being at all sickly, which is something else I find is too often the case with cheese-flavoured snacks.
Combined with the delicious crunchy texture of the Doritos chips, the deliciously tangy cheese flavouring of these snacks really makes the snack a very enjoyable one and when I am in the mood for a savoury snack I find that these chips really satisfy my craving.
The nutritional information on the reverse of the packaging informs me that the 40g bag of 'Tangy Cheese' flavoured Doritos will provide: 202 kcal and 10.6 g fat which does seem quite high but I believe is on a par with many other types of savoury snack that I consume regularly!
I can also see that the Tangy Cheese Doritos are suitable for a vegetarian diet. In relation to food allergies, I can see that the Doritos contain milk, wheat and gluten.
I would wholeheartedly recommend the Walkers Doritos "Tangy Cheese" flavoured corn chips a try out as I think they are a very satisfying savoury snack item and I will continue to buy them for myself.
There is a whole range of snack items available from the Doritos brand, such as a variety of flavoured 'Corn Chips' as well as a range of dips. There is a selection from the range available to buy in all good supermarkets such as Tesco and Asda.
Summary: A cheesy-flavoured corn chip snack!
