I really like a cup of coffee and a biscuit when I'm watching the soaps, I'm a creature of habit really and I like all kinds of biscuits, especially the luxurious ones and Walkers Stem Ginger Shortbread are very indulgent. This week for my treat I bought a box of these special biscuits to indulge my biscuit habit.
Although sometimes I buy the cheaper brands of biscuits its always nice to have some luxurious biscuits in the tin for when visitors come around, or for cuddling up on the sofa with the fire lit at night watching and relaxing in front of the television.
I bought Walkers Stem Ginger Shortbread this time I was shopping and they cost me £2.25 for a 175g box of tasty treats.
I know this is much more than a packet of Morrison's own brand of shortbread, but these biscuits are well worth paying extra for as they the little pieces of stem ginger baked into the biscuit, so that when you bite them you get the tangy spicy taste of ginger as well as the little chewy pieces too. I love ginger and with some ginger biscuits, you just get the flavour of ginger in the biscuit, but to actually get the little pieces of ginger in the biscuit is brilliant.
Each little shortbread biscuit is rounded and shaped with curvy edges, they are about a half a centimetre thick , so your getting a chunky little biscuit, delicately made and placed in it's own compartment with a sealed in freshness. The shortbread is firm but melts in your mouth, as all good shortbread should do.
Te packaging is the unmistakable Walkers Scottish tweed design, a rich red and inviting packet, which is easily noticeable on the supermarket shelves. These are also ideal for over the Christmas period as they look quite festive, but I just love them any time of the year as a special treat.
Walkers is a very well known brand for making biscuits and especially it's shortbread.
Although I was taught not to dunk my biscuits in my coffee, I still do but to be honest, with a luxurious biscuit I never seem to want to spoil the natural taste of the biscuit, so I don't dunk these. Not only would it make my coffee taste of ginger as they are strong flavoured, but it would spoil the enjoyment of the rich shortbread, that melts in the mouth, leaving the rich spicy ginger flavour on your tongue.
For those of you who are on a diet then these are definitely a no go area, they are very high in calories at a whopping 493 calories per 100g !
Two biscuits is really enough to eat at a time and at the price they are, you can't really afford to munch them quickly like a cheaper brand of biscuits. They are definitely to be savoured as a treat.
Ginger is also good for the digestion, can help with circulation problems and is good for arthritis, so not only are these very tasty luxurious biscuits they are good for you, unless you eat the whole packet as they are high in calories.
Have fun x
Shortbread. The liveliness of real Australian stem ginger combined with the subtle richness of our pure butter shortbread gives these thin, crisp rounds a unique and distinctive flavour - completely different to any other shortbread.
