Advantages: light, tasty, crispy

Disadvantages: none

I'm having a bit of an unorganised week and didn't have any food in the house for breakfast. I went into town, and when I was walking around Boots, decided to get myself a meal deal. Along with my sandwich and bottle of water, I struggled to find a third item. After a bit of perusing, I spotted Walkers SunBites. I have seen these before, but never tried them, so I decided I'd give them a go, and picked up a packet of the oven roasted onion and rosemary flavour.

~About the product~

These are a wholegrain snack. Walkers state that they contain 67% wholegrain, which apparently means they are bursting with goodness. Like other Walkers products, they are made with sunseed oil, which is high in mono-unsaturated and low in saturates. They contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. Each pack will give more than 1/3 of the suggested daily amount of wholegrains.

~Packaging~

They come in a packet, just like a crisp packet and are normally found in the crisp aisle. The packaging is very summery, and quite different to most other snacks I would say, as it has a picture of a field and a sunrise. I'm not quite sure what that is supposed to represent! There is a picture of the product as well as a roast onion and a sprig of rosemary.

~What I thought~

From the picture on the front of the pack, I had expected that these would be the same texture as frazzles, those crisps that look like streaks of bacon. In fact, they are nothing like that. Each SunBite is rectangular - about an inch and a half long by an inch wide and is sort of wavy - having ridges in it. They are a golden colour, and you can see the grains running through them as well as the odd small green fleck of rosemary. Despite them being onion flavour, they don't have a particularly strong smell.

Taste wise, I was really surprised. I have tried various other so called healthy snacks, and usually find them to be like flavoured cardboard, these however were different. They have a lovely light, crispy texture, and are not greasy like others can be. The flavour is predominantly the roasted onion, but you can taste a hint of rosemary which gives it a nice twist. The combination of the onion with the crispy, grainy texture goes brilliantly together, I think any other flavour could possibly be quite bland.

~Price~

As I bought these as part of a meal deal, the price for some reason hasn't come up on my receipt, which is weird as I thought it normally did, but never mind. I believe these cost around the 50p mark, they're not much more expensive than ordinary crisps.

~Conclusion~

These are lovely, I was so surprised that I actually liked them. I think I expected them to be a bit more like cardboard, but they are lovely and light, and have a great flavour. I'm only sorry I didn't buy more than one pack!
