“ Type: Crisps/Snacks „
I can't remember seeing this kind of Crisps over here, but oddly enough I found them in Newark Airport. Obviously I see a Dooyoo category and review about them, so they must have existed over here, but looks like that was many moons ago.
This 40g pack probably cost me about 80p over there, but I was hungry, and these looked different so I had to try them. After hearing the flavour of these I thought of a nice heavy flavour with a nice Pineapple and Chicken taste to them. They were pretty nice I have to say.
Pack looked like the dooyoo picture, but more a faded orange. I have to say I didn't think to check the best before date. Perhaps the pack had been kicking about for the last 7 years. No matter. I'm still here so no harm done anyway.
The Crisps were mainly large ones and not all broken up, but there was the odd few down the bottom as usual. The scent when I opened the bag was nice, but I thought they smelt more like Roast Chicken. There was a bit sweet scent to them though but i'm not sure I would say exactly Sweet and Sour. You could tell that it was a slightly different scent though and the taste was pretty nice. I think the flavour hit more after about a third of the bag. It wasn't a strong taste, more a nice subtle one.
I think this flavour should be brought back over here as they are a nice different flavour of Crisps, and I cannot nip back over there and get another bag.
On a recent trip I found a tempting new multipack of Great British Takeaways, I wasn't sure if I would like the Tikka Masala ones as I am not the greatest fan of curries (apart from the ones my Mum used to make) but I had to try the Sweet and Sour ones as I love the stuff :o) The multipack cost me nothing as it was it was buy 2 get 1 free deal.. so this was my free pack! They are normally about 96p I think, but I threw the receipt away.. D'Oh! They are also available singularly in my local sweet shop but I have no idea how much they are... (I will go and have a look next time I am there and update) Right lets get on with business......... The bag is orange with the Walkers logo in bright red with white writing, just like their normal crisps, but this is different only in the fact that the bag isn't a solid colour, there are sort of swirly patterns on it. I suppose it is supposed to look Chinesey but to me it looks more Celtic! And there is a little takeaway paper bag in the corner with sweet & sour flavour written on it! The back has pictures of the other crisps available in the range... also coming out of a paper bag picture and all the usual gumph about calories and stuff... there is 25g in the bag, giving you 131 kcal and 8.3g fat and it says these are suitable for veggies and coeliacs. Now it's time to tuck in.... On opening the bag I notice a smell that is more like Prawn cocktail than anything else.... I don't remember Sweet n sour smelling like Prawn cocktail crisps, but then I have never had a prawn cocktail that tastes like the prawn cocktail crisps! The crisps are covered in a goldeness that make them look very tasty and they are a nice size so they pop straight in the mouth rather than having to bite them and make crumbs go everywhere. I pop one in and wonder how this is related to sweet n sour! They taste sort of like a cross between the baked bean flavour, the
ketchup ones and prawn cocktail with something else added that I can't quite put my finger on. After polishing off the bag I can say there is a bit of an aftertaste, but it is exactly the same as the beforetaste (I know what I mean!) so this isn't a bad thing. It isn't an unpleasant taste, just not what I expected sweet n sour to taste like. This is why they lost a star from me. It is not that I don't like these crisps.. I do... and will happily buy them again..... they just don't taste like sweet n sour :oP Happy munching Sarah :o)
