Advantages: convenient, tasty, good texture, fairly filling

Disadvantages: high in carbs, low in fibre

I bought a box of 5 bars of these last week from QualitySave for just 99p & I have to say they have gone down really well with my daughter who, at 19, is still a very fussy eater.

Although the contents are the same, the box is different now from the one shown. The Weetabix logo is less eveident, the box predominantly purple & mine has a banner stating 'even tastier - now with 30% more fruit'.

Inside the carton are 5 x 29g bars which are individually wrapped & heat-sealed to retain the freshness & means they can just be popped into a bag or pocket for an instant 'fix' when out & about. I'd say the size is about the same as a Picnic bar & there's a picture of an apple, wheat & a couple of blackberries which gives an impression of it being a healthy snack.

However, there are healthier bars than this because reading the nutritional values (provided both on the box & on the wrapper) each one contains 120kcal (not bad) but 21.8g carb (inc over 11g of sugar), 3.1g fat & is lower in fibre than I'd have expected - only 0.8g.

The taste is good though - you can tell it's got blackberry & apple in each one yet it's not too strong & blends nicely into the quite crunchy cereal. The yoghurt topping is a nice touch too - I think it makes a nice change to have a mix of so many textures all in one bite.

I've found that some cereal bars go a bit gloopy & soft but having had one in my bag for a few hours it still retained its texture. Also I've found that bits can get stuck between my teeth (not a pleasant sight) with other cereal bars (especially Chewees) but I didn't have a problem with these Alpen ones.

I found them to be quite sweet, but not overly so, fairly filling & really convenient & I'm giving 4 stars (knocking one off for the high carb content).

Well worth trying if you like your cereal bars!

Summary: a nice change
