... '2 for £3' deals, so you can grab several boxes and make a saving. I actually find them quite good value in a strange way because, by eating these cereal bars, I tend to avoid impulse purchases such as chocolate, crisps etc. - such confectionery snacks probably work out more expensive in the long run! If you are using these as an adjunct to a weight loss programme, one piece of advice - make sure you purchase the LIGHT version as the normal Alpen cereal bars have twice the calorie content. Beware when making your s...more

Alpen Light - Chocolate and Orange ********************************** I've never been a huge fan of cereal bars but as I have recently become aware that I eat far too much chocolate (What's that? There's no such thing as too much chocolate, ah, you're right!) I thought it was about time to start looking for some healthier alternatives. These Alpen bars stood out to me, probably because they were on promotion at my local Asda! What's in them? ***************** These bars are made from wholegrain wheatflakes and oats which have been combined with chocolate to give the whole bar a chocolate-y taste. There is also a drizzle ...  Read the complete review

A great light and filling snack! (383 words)

I was introduced to these cereal bars a few months ago during the start of my new weight loss programme. I use these cereal bars, alongside fruit, as a snack in between meals. They are only 70 calories per bar so they fit perfectly into my healthy eating regime and so far have been a very successful addition to my diet. At £1.79 per box of 5 in my local supermarket, they are not what I would consider cheap, especially in the current climate. This also seems expensive when you consider that I consume up to 10-15 bars a week! However, if you shop around, some of the supermarkets do '2 for £3' deals, so you can grab several boxes and make a saving. I actually ...  Read the complete review

Weetabix Alpen Light Chocolate & Orange: Share my amazement!! (525 words)

As you can probably tell from my previous reviews (mostly today in fact) I am usually a Special K girl through and through, but desperate times call for desperate measures and when you are at work, absolutely starving with either a choice between a Jaffa Cake or an Alpen bar from the shop there isn't much choice. Yes I know most of you normal people out there would say its no choice and go for the Jaffa Cake, but I am no normal person, I am a crazed person on a diet. So really I thought I might as well quell my special k snobbiness and just get the Alpen Bar. Despite my disappointment at not being able to find the Special K bar I wanted (id already eaten my ...  Read the complete review

Weetabix Alpen Light Chocolate & Orange - Uhm, yummy :X (355 words)

I bought this together with the Light Chocolate and Fudge flavour. There are other flavours as well but I was just too keen on chocolate. They were on offer 2 for £2.25, pretty cheap for cereal bars (if you compare to Special K, for example), especially it contains less than 70kcal each so I thought I would give this a try. These bars are made by popular cereal company Weetabix and are sold in packs of five bars with each bar being around 21 grams each in weight. Normally it is sold at around £1.50 to £1.60 each. The box has a nice big picture of the cereal bar showing all its cereal goodness, which makes you want to eat it immediately! Opening the ...  Read the complete review

Weetabix Alpen Light Chocolate & Orange: Snack Attack. (687 words)

Cereal bars can come in very handy if you are looking for a low calorie snack that is going to fill that gap until you enjoy your next meal. But cereal bars can vary greatly, some are moist, tempting and very moreish and others can be dry as a stick, very unappetising and leave you feeling extremely disappointed. Weetabix the company produce the ever popular wheat biscuit that we all know and love, crunchy bran flakes, the comparative new and far less exciting ( in my opinion ) Oatibix and a cereal that my nephew loves, Ready Brek. But naively I never realised that the Alpen cereal bars were made by the Weetabix company. There are four flavours in ...  Read the complete review
