“ Type: Biscuits „
I like to try a variety of breakfast cereals as I consume them every morning. I typically enjoy sweet, crunchy cereals with a hint of nuts and an interesting texture. These 'Weetabix Minis Honey and Nut Crisp' fit that desription very well.
When I first purchased these I actually imagined they would be much more like the original large bisk Weetabix product that I am familiar with, only on a smaller scale. Infact these 'minis' are quite unlike that and the two products only really have their shape in common.
These minis are just over an inch long and are small, bite-sized flat cakes of wholegrain flakes, peanuts, sugar, molasses and blended honey. The texture is stiff and crisp and the product holds this shape in the packet. The ingredients are bound together by the sugary mix and the mini bites have a glazed appearance. The ingredients are packed in tightly, almost as if they have been compressed. They are toasted brown in colour and you can see traces of chopped peanuts through the mix. They smell very strongly of honey, which is mouth watering!
I find that 18-20 bites in a bowl is filling enough for my big appetite! The bites keep their shape and remain crispy even in milk. I do sometimes find them a little tough and chewy when I first begin to eat but they soften just a little in the milk. The sweet taste is strong and the honey and molasses touch is very obvious. The peanut taste is quite noticable too, although the particles of nuts are too small to really tell apart them from the flakes.
The 450g box contains 12 36g servings. An average serving contains 132 calories with 1.8g of fat (0.4 of which staurates). The cereal is fortifies with vitamins and minerals including folic acid. The product is branded as being suitable for vegetarians.
More about the brand and the product can be found at the website:
The Weetabix Food Company has been producing breakfast cereals since 1932 and was founded by two South Africans who introduced the their breakfast products to the UK. The company now exports a range of cereals to over 80 countries worldwide. According to their official website: "Weetabix accounts for 8% of the country's total cereal sales with annual sales worth over £89 million (2006)", making it the most popular breakfast cereal in the UK.
Weetabix Minis are a variation on the larger breakfast biscuit designed as a kind of snack that can be consumed throughout the day. They are promoted as a healthier snacking option when compared to chocolate biscuits for example. You can still put them in a bowl and add milk of course.
Weetabix Minis are little bite size cereals snacks. They can be purchased in three different varieties: chocolate crisp, honey and nut crisp and fruit and nut crisp. I have tried the honey and nut crisp variety. They are quite sweet and harder than Weetabix. They also retain their crunchiness in milk longer than the larger biscuits.
There are supposed to be about 12 (36g) servings per box but a lot of course depends on individual consumption. According to the manufacturers, each serving of the honey and nut crisp variety contains 132 calories, 9.6g of sugar and 1.8g of fat. The vitamin content is the usual vitamin B complex selection plus a generous addition of 4.3g of iron. The massive amount of sugar though (26.8g per 100g) hardly makes this product a healthy choice.
A 450g box of Weetabix Minis costs about £1.90 at Tesco's, but you can sometimes pick then up cheaper on special multi-buy offers.
Weetabix Minis; honey nut crisp is absolutely gorgeous! You can eat them crispy, moist or soggy, its all up to you!!! What I think tastes best is when you put a good amount in your bowl, fill it up with milk, and push the weetabix minis under the milk. This way they get nice and squishy.
The thing about this cereal is that it is one of only a few types of cereals that has the moreish factor about it! The honey and nut variety goes really well together. You put one into your watering mouth and chew a well made healthy breakfast. The texture is moist and squishy, which I like since it reminds me of eating a freshly baked cookie (don't ask why!)
The size of the biscuits, if you like, are just the right size to fit into your mouth. Everything about this delightful cereal is good! Therefore, I would most definitely recommend this to people, probably to people who don't eat breakfast. They need to eat a healthy breakfast, rather than missing out a very important meal of the day.
