Recently I have experienced rather dry skin, most probably with the weather being hot and humid. Though I have ensured my diet and water intake is plentiful in skin nourishing goodies the heat got the better of me. I tried my regular body washes and skin moisturising oils and creams without much success. So having seen the amazing benefits of this soap I treated myself to a bar - after all us girls are worth it!
WHAT THE HECK IS BLACK SOAP?
Basically this soap is a fabulously blended skin treat that includes Raw Shea Butter and Virgin Coconut Oil. Akoma Black Soap is Fair Trade and Organic and is especially good for sensitive skin. The soap has many benefits for the skin which include: reducing the appearance of fine lines and treating dry/rough skin! As the soap is Cruelty Free and approved by the Vegan Society I purchased one promptly. At this point I shall direct you to the wonderfully detailed and attractive website if you are interested in discovering more about the: Benefits of using the soap, Ethics, Mission, Products and Community Projects. www.akomaskincare.co.uk
DID IT MAKE YOUR SKIN SOFT AND SILKY?
The 110g bar arrived packed in a quality, attractive box - a promising start and reassuring as the cost of £3.47 is much more than I would normally pay for a bar of soap! Once opened the bar is still not revealed as it is wrapped perfectly in quality brown paper! I am suitably impressed up to now as I do like a well presented product.
The soap is dark brown. I found this really unusual and wondered what the fragrance would be like? I could only detect a mild, fresh aroma which smelt natural and unprocessed - refreshing. The texture of the bar is slightly rough and bumpy which was a new concept for me - I was aware that I should avoid rubbing it directly on to my face. The bar was soft in consistency - I was mindful not to squeeze too hard so that the shape was maintained and no damage done .
I used the soap whilst showering, it is advisable to avoid leaving the soap in contact with the water excessively as it will not last as long if it gets too much moisture on it. I found that I only needed to rub the soap (gently) over my body once in total to obtain excellent coverage and; even though suds are not created initially, if you keep massaging with your hands a rich creamy lather will develop. I was delighted with the quality of this luscious froth - I have never gained such results with previous products - the Shea and Coconut Oil make all the difference here!
The soap feels luxurious and deeply moisturising - I focused on the dry areas on my legs and abdomen. You can use the soap for the hair too - indeed the soap is wonderful for any part of the body. I did not experience any tightness during or after washing with the Black Soap. The soap is very easily rinsed off - leaving you with a squeaky clean sensation - nothing complicated here!
There was a noticeable difference on my facial skin immediately - it was softer and smoother. Then, after 4 -5 days, a small area of redness that had been on my cheek for months disappeared! Certainly a welcome and unexpected bonus. My troublesome dry areas to my legs and abdomen took a little longer to remedy but I am happy to report that after two weeks of daily use in the shower my skin is looking and feeling a whole lot better. The skin feels hydrated and looks glowing with health.
I am incredibly happy with the results and would happily pay the price in the future as I see this soap as a beauty treatment that is worth every penny! I am now on week four and I have approximately a third of the soap left. So if it lasts a month and remains effective then I would say that it is cost effective for me as it is brilliant for maintaining healthy, hydrated skin that has a radiant glow.
To ensure the soap lasts for as long as possible it is advisable to place it in a cool and dry place as soon as possible after use - I wrap it in the brown paper and place it in the box that it came in and then store it in the bathroom cupboard.
