“ Brand: Spa Paradisa / Type: Soap „
Both Debenhams and Superdrug stock a beautiful range of paraben free toiletries called Spa Paradisa. Depending on stock availability, you may find they have soaps, body butters, body washes and candles, and Debenhams also have extra items including lip balms and even a shower cap. The product I am reviewing today is the soap bar, which is a particular favourite of mine, though I have tried all the products in the range and every one is gorgeous and sensibly priced.
The soap bar retails for £1.99 for a bath size piece, and you will find it with the range in the toiletries section of Superdrug. If you are looking in Debenhams it will be with the premium products alongside L'occitane and other well known brands.
The box has an image depicting a lovely tropical scene with a lady carrying a basket of exotic fruits. The soap is fragranced with ylang-ylang and jasmine, and is enriched with shea butter and coconut shell granules which are brilliant little exfoliators.
Inside the box the soap is encased in wax paper and it has a beautiful creamy oriental aroma. You can see the little speckles of coconut shell in the soap which is a light stone shade.
What I adore about this product is that it is a marriage of two properties which compliment each other beautifully. First the lovely soft lather enriched by the shea butter, which is really moisturising, and secondly the scratchy little coconut shells which are invigorating and feel like they are making you feel spotlessly clean. I love this soap because unlike many exfoliating products it still leaves the skin soft after use. There is no need to moisturise afterwards, though I do, as the other body butters in the range are so lovely they are difficult to resist using afterwards, as they too have a lovely smell and are paraben free.
From an ethical viewpoint this product also impresses me as the shea butter they use has been bought from fair trade sources. The entire range is paraben free, which is an added bonus as it is so refreshing to see a range of products which are light on chemicals being sold on the high street at sensible prices. As well as this of course there is no waste as no plastics are involved in the packaging, and the cardboard box can be recycled.
It is true to say that £1.99 for one bar of soap could be said to border on extravagance, but this is a special bar and is in line with prices charged by other retailers for similar premium soap bars. It does have the advantage of being long lasting and with the exfoliating properties it really fulfils a dual purpose -that is cleansing and stimulating the skin at the same time. It would also make a lovely gift along side the other items.
It's an indulgent soap and one I wouldn't be without. It's also available mail order from both Debenhams and Superdrug, but availability can be an issue here as it is often out of stock due to popularity. If you do visit Superdrug on the high street then register your card first with the cash-back site at www.greasypalm.co.uk as all purchases will then be subject to 3% cash-back when the registered card is use to pay in store. I had recently noticed a lack of the product in Superdrug as well as price reductions, and an email to them today confirmed that they are planning to cease the sales of this range in the near future. When this happens Debenhams will be the next best option, although an email today to Spa Paradisa also confirmed that the range is available from Next on-line who also stock their tanning cream, which is a lovely lotion which adds a gradual tan to the skin over several applications.
The range of toiletries won the Pure Beauty Awards in 2008, which is no surprise to me as they really are well worth trying, especially if like me you are trying to opt for fewer chemicals in your toiletries. The company, according to their website, promises to transport customers to "a wondrous and distant world with its vintage south sea imagery and chic retro style graphics" I like this image and am so glad to see it doesn't carry a high price tag for the privilege!
The soap lathers beautifully and is a delight to use. A gem of a product with stunning packaging - one of my favourites.
