Gund Elmo
by benlepensive
One of the most endearing Sesame Street creatures is the cute Elmo. He looks cute, his voice is cute and there is not much you can't like about him. Toymaker Gund have produced several Sesame Street dolls, including Big Bird and Bert and Ernie. Elmo is a welcome addition to the gang and is a particularly popular character with the ... younger viewers.
Although various Elmo toys exist on the market, including a talking Elmo, it is worth having a slightly more affordable option for Christmas. This chap can be purchased for around the ten pound mark so would be within most budgets.
He stands at about thirteen inches in height, so he is not huge, but is a comfortable enough size to sit on a bed, put on a shelf or take to bed. The first thing you will notice is his wide eyes, which are lodged onto the top of his head, moulded from plastic. They looked startled, but then Elmo does always looked alarmed! His pert orange nose sits just below and is in proportion.
Elmo has been produced with deliciously soft red fur, which is a joy to stroke. It's the kind of fur you could snuggle up to and feel comforted by. His joints all allow plenty of movement, so he is not stiff.
The colours on the toy are spot on and the stitching good, making him a solid purchase. In terms of what else Gund could have done with him...probably not much more, given the simplicity of the character in the first place. He would be a good gift for kids this season and can be bought online from a range of toy stores. Prices tend to vary by two to three pounds. Read the complete review |

Gund Big Bird
by benlepensive
I always had a problem with Big Bird, in that he seemed to hog the limelight in Sesame Street. Poor old Oscar, Grover and The Count took back seats as he pranced about the screen in a camp fashion, mixing with American children. I know he meant well, but the character was overused and grated on me!
Gund have made several ... Sesame Street cuddly toys, all with different price tags. Big Bird is one of the largest creatures on the street so he commands a whopping price tag, which I shall come to in a moment. He has been expertly crafted though with a loving eye to detail. His kind face is spot on and he looks cute and warming. No evil looking eyes which could give children nightmares. His yellow fur is light and fluffy and has a wonderful ruffled texturing to it, which suggests he is feathery. You can not twist the arms or the wings, but you can squeeze them and bend them and they will return to the original form.
His beak is proportionately designed with just the right curve on it and a pleasing jawline, so you could easily feed him birdseed if yo have any about the house. His legs are slim and orange and Gund have even put the pink flecks around them which is a neat touch. He might have trouble balancing, due to his top heavy weight, so maybe stand him against a shelf.
Big Bird would make a great Christmas gift, but his price tag could startle some. At a little under forty pounds he is far too expensive for those of us on a tight budget this winter, which is a terrible shame. He stands at about twenty five inches, so he is a very big Big Bird! But the price cannot be justifed, sorry old chap! Read the complete review |

Gund Sesame Street Ernie
by benlepensive
We already have the miserable Bert and here is his cheery counterpart, Ernie. Not sure if Ernie has a second name, most people just know him as Ernie. Ernie is a long running character in the hit tv show 'Sesame Street.' He has brought smiles to faces worldwide, thanks to his chirpy nature and good spirits. He is the polar opposite of ... Bert, but somehow the two remain good friends!
Although you can purchase a wide range of Sesame Street toys, there exist few very good stuffed toys on the market. Luckily, Gund have managed to corner the market with a selection of well made toys which all have very good likenesses.
The soft toy of Ernie is an excellent recreation. His face is orange and spot on and you can see attention has gone into crafting his tufty hair. A small black mass sits proudly on his head. Ernie does look a crazy in the eyes, but then if you look at the real character, you will see Ernie does indeed have wonky eyes! Great jawline on this chap too, looking just like the real muppet.
His top is really well designed, with the coloured stripes glaring out at you, they have even got the trim correct around the edges which is a neat touch. Casual blue slacks are complimented with a pair of classic looking sneakers, completing a very impressive looking Ernie.
For better play scenarios you really should get Bert too then you can have squabbling matches between the two. Ernie is in proportion to his moody lean friend, standing at eleven inches in height. He would make a splendid gift for younger children at Christmas and will also please diehard fans of the show. He will cost about eleven pounds to buy as new so the price is pretty reasonable, considering the detail that has gone into him. He would look lovely on a bedspread on nestling on a pillow!
