      Cute little puppy

This was a gift for my youngest daughter last Christmas from her Nanna. We'd asked for a dog Build A Bear for her because she loves her older sister's Black Labrador version but was never allowed to touch it, so we wanted one that she could have all to herself. They don't have many dog variations in Build A Bear, so I think this was the best available, and considering she was only 14 months at the time, it was a really suitable choice. I'm not going to go into details about Build A Bear shops & products, that's for another review (basically you choose a soft toy, a sound (could be giggling, happy birthday, a dog's bark...etc), put a fabric heart in it, watch it get stuffed, give it a name and print out a birth certificate, and pay for it all at the till), this review is based solely on the 'Velvet Pup'. I've never reviewed a soft toy before so I'm not sure where to start really... The pup is about 33cm tall, and is asthma friendly. I think this particular pup is aimed for the younger market because it's very soft and cuddly and doesn't have any sharp or harsh edges on it; the only solid parts of it are his 2 eyes. The fur is very short, and has a velvet feel to it (hence the name Velvet Pup), it has a nice soft tail, soft floppy ears, and a cute smiley mouth. It has a kind of angelic look to it, like it might be the sweetest puppy you ever met. He's a very chunky looking little pup with large paws so when he's in a sit up a beg position, he looks very cute and I think appealing for a young child to grab him and give him a big cuddle. When my daughter opened the box on Christmas Day, the look on her face was priceless. She loves dogs and for her to get her very own special puppy was like a dream come true for her, she immediately gave him a big hug, and he has been one of her favourite toys every since. To say that it's been my daughter's toy for 10 months now, it is still in remarkable condition, it has worn really well. Obviously he's starting to look a bit grubby around the face and on the paws, but the feel of his fur is still as soft as ever and it hasn't got 'matted' in any areas, despite my daughter being one of the stickiest fingered children I know. He is a really lovely little pup and I would recommend him to anyone wanting to buy a baby or young toddler their first Build A Bear toy because he's very simple and cute, but he is something that will last and can be treasured. There are a few accessories available for this Velvet Pup; we have since purchased a fabric kennel and a lead for him. But you can also get a couple of items of doggy clothing. Obviously the range of accessories is nowhere near as massive as the range of stuff available for the more mainstream Build A Bear products. The Velvet Pup is available in stores and on the Build A Bear website (www.buildabear.co.uk) for £13.50 as the starting price, it depends how much you add on (such as sounds which are £2.50) as to how much you will end up paying when he is finished.
