Advantages: Very sweet looking, good and easy to work noise mechanism
Disadvantages: The hat can look a little shapeless at times
When my friend came to visit last week she brought with her a gift for my two year old granddaughter, one she knew the little one would love as she's well aware of her obsession with the Peppa Pig franchise.
This Pirate George beanie is so sweet, I absolutely adore him and would love to have kept him for myself! It's the same George as is used in most of these plush toys, with the same facial features and little rounded body - the difference being that this particular George is dressed in a sweet little pirate suit and when you press his tummy he will give an oinking sound.
George looks extremely sweet and I was quite astounded when my friend told me he cost just £2.49 in Wilkinsons as on Amazon he costs almost £5! He stands roughly eight inches high so is a small beanie, but his rotund build makes him seem much more bulky compared to his rather stunted height. In fact he's the perfect size for my granddaughter's chubby little hands, I'm particularly impressed that the oinking mechanism (for want of a better phrase!) is very easy for little hands to press and seems to cover the whole of his tummy so there is no fumbling about to get him to make a noise - therefore avoiding the frustration tantrum that often occurs with these kinds of toy.
George's outfit is very sweet, although the hat is the one thing I dislike about the toy. When it's 'right' it looks fantastic with the skull and crossbones at the front and George's eyepatch which can be flipped to cover his eye or not. The problem is that the hat is made of a rather flimsy black felt material and it doesn't sit in position as well as I would like, the worst thing being that when it loses it's shape it looks like the kind of shapeless headwear that Worzel Gummidge would wear!
The toy is wipe clean only, as are the majority of these talking soft toys, and I find that a nuisance because when making toys for toddlers they should surely be able to be machine washed as obviously they're going to get grimy quickly. His little blue and white striped romper suit comes off and that is machine washable, but frankly it's such a thin and small garment that I would worry about losing it should I decide to remove it for washing.
Overall I think this is a fabulous little Peppa Pig inspired toy. My granddaughter adored him from the moment she first set eyes upon him and has played with him almost constantly since she was given it. It's extremely well made with nothing that can be pulled apart or put into baby's mouth and I personally find the small size of the toy ideal for taking with us when we go out in the car.
Summary: A pig in a pirate costume, how surreal!
