We are massive Disney fans in our house and love everything Mickey Mouse. One of my kids favourite shows is Mickey Mouse clubhouse and over the years my little girl has collected both a gorgeous large Minnie Mouse plush and a large Mickey Mouse plush. I wanted my son to have one too but I obviously wanted something different as these toys are technically my little girls and so I decided upon Donald Duck for his birthday. We asked my dad, Grandpa for him and thought he would probably just buy a small one but he came with a large one wrapped up as he said they were half price in the Disney store in October and they had a big box full of them at the front of the store so it was very good timing. He said he paid in the £10 which for a big toy like this I think is very good.
Donald Duck is a little bit cute and michevious and this is exactly what my little boy is like so I thought it would suit his personality perfectly and they are now firm friends. He cannot go to bed without Donald and we take him everywhere around the house although he does not leave the house as a)we do not want to loose him and b) we don't want him to get dirty.
Donald Duck was my brothers favourite as a boy and he absolutely loved him so I wanted to have that same thing for my little boy.
I thought I would quickly quote an article to show you just how cool Donald Duck is. "Donald Duck is a funny animal cartoon character created in 1934 at Walt Disney Productions. Donald is an anthropomorphicwhite duck with a yellow-orange bill, legs, and feet. He typically wears a sailor suit with a cap and a black or red bow tie. Donald is most famous for his semi-intelligible speech and his mischievous and irritable personality. Along with his friendMickey Mouse, Donald is one of the most popular Disney characters and was included in TV Guide's list of the 50 greatest cartoon characters of all time in 2002. He has appeared in more films than any other Disney character and is the fifth most published comic book character in the world after Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, and Wolverine.
This plush Donald Duck is very soft and cuddly. He's made from lovely soft material which makes him perfect for cuddling. He has a firmish middle section and also some bean bag type beans in his bottom which means you are able to make him sit down if you wish. Then he has two little legs and feet that dangle from his body as these are soft. I like this look because if you are holding him it makes his legs dangle. Donald is wearing his famous sailors suit which consists of a cute blue waistcoat and blue sailors hat and quite a big red bow tie.
The favourite part of Donald for my little boy is his big orange bill. As it juts out of his face quite far my little boy loves to bite this and put it in his mouth. My favourite part is his bushy tail which is fluffy and cute. What I like about this Donald also is that it has a stamp on his left foot that shows you that its a Disney Original, genuine, authentic and I like to know that we have the real deal.
On his little tag it says that Donald is hand wash able but I prefer to just get a baby wipe to swipe away any surface dirt he may get on him.
A very cute little toy and a good friend for my little boy.
I've never been a fan of Donald Duck, he didn't really feature in my childhood and as an adult has never appealed. When one of my daughters opened this Donald Duck soft plush at Christmas as a gift I was thinking couldn't you have chosen a different character!
This particular toy is part of the Disney Mickey Mouse Clubhouse range and is approximately 9" (23cm) tall. It is the perfect size for my 2 year olds and the label advises that it is suitable for a child 12 months+. This toy is very well made as you would expect from the Disney Store. The colours are vibrant from the blue hat and top to Donald's golden beak and legs. The insides are a mixture of bean bag in the tail area and soft toy for the rest. It has a lovely fluffy tail and quiff of hair and the whole toy is silky smooth to the touch. Despite all this he has hardly had a second glance from either of my girls, maybe they inherited it from me but they aren't looking like becoming Donald fans at the moment. However as I am quickly learning toddlers are fickle and tomorrow he could be flavour of the day!
I find it annoying that this toy has 2 large material labels, one of which isn't even printed on both sides. I like to keep the material labels attached so that the washing instructions, etc are available if I need them. Luckily one of the labels only duplicates information and so won't be missed when I cut it off.
Price and availability
As mentioned before we received Donald Duck as a gift but a quick look on the Disney Store website has him priced at £7 which I think is good value for the quality of this toy.
Would I recommend?
Yes but only to a Donald Duck fan, I think my girls would have preferred a Daisy Duck with her pink outfits. I think Donald is destined to find his way to the bottom of the soft toy pile and will remain there.
