      More peas please!

Those who have read some of my previous reviews will be aware that my family are BIG Toy Story fans and that over time we have amassed a pretty big collection of Toy Story toys. As we now have most of the main characters, such as Woody, Jessie and Buzz, I thought our collection was pretty much complete, but those clever money men at Disney have managed to get those cash registers ringing once more by releasing some of the less well known characters from the movies. The peas in a pod feature in the third Toy Story Movie. By introducing the character of the young girl, Bonnie, Disney were able to create many new toy characters in the form of the toys that live in her bedroom, such as Mr Pricklepants, chuckles the Clown and Buttercup the Unicorn. The peas in a pod are childlike characters and in the movie they are the ones that notice that Woody has lost his cowboy hat. At the end of the movie, they are "adopted" by the Potato Heads. According to official sources, their names are Peatey, Peatrice and Peanelope! This soft toy cost £7 from Disney store, which seems to be the going rate for a branded soft toy this size. The peas come in a green velour pod, which has a green zip running along its length. Just like a real pea pod, you can see the shape of the peas inside! When you unzip the pod, you can see the three cute, smiling faces of the peas, peeping out of the pod. They are really cute! They are made from the same velour fabric, but are a slightly brighter shade of green. The faces have embroidered features, which I always think is a good safety aspect as there are no bits for a small child to pull off and swallow. They have black dot eyes, rosy cheeks and smiley mouths. Two of the peas have exactly the same facial expression, but the other pea has a wider smile and a more cheeky face, with the eyes slightly narrowed as if he is laughing. The peas are partly filled with soft stuffing and partly filled with bean bag beans, but the stitching is secure and the peas are unlikely to split or come unstitched. The peas are initially attached to the pod by means of thin plastic tags, but these can easily be removed by snipping the tags. The inside of the pod is made from a different fabric, which has little green dots all over it. My little boy, who is six, loves taking them out of the pod and making up little stories with them. He also likes trying to juggle them, although he hasn't quite mastered that yet! Because of their round shape, they roll really well along the floor, which meakes them ideal for bowling or target practice. The kids love the peas, but keep fighting over them! My son even took them to bed with him last night. They are unlikely to get lost as they can all be safely tucked up together in their pod after play. This is a really cute toy, and would really suit all fans of the movie. It would also be a lovely gift for a young child, as it is a great tactile toy and the child is able to remove and replace all the peas and zip up the pod, which is good for developing co-ordination skills. This is another very high quality toy from Disney that looks like it will last a long time, as it is very well made. Now the peas just have to settle in our home with their new Toy Story friends!
