As you may have gathered after reading several of my reviews, I have a Waybuloo fan as a daughter! She has adored the television programme ever since she first saw it just over a year ago and now we have gradually gathered quite a collection of Waybuloo toys!
Waybuloo is a children's television programme which you can catch most days on BBC2 or Cbeebies channel. It lasts about twenty minutes and tells a story which is set in the land of Nara. Within this land are The Piplings who are known as Yo Jo Jo, Nok Tok, De Li and Lau Lau. These are takes on different animals including an orange monkey, blue bear, pink kitten and a purple bunny. In each episode the creatures play games and meet Cheebies (children), there is always a moral to tell which has a positive emphasis to it such as sharing or cheering your friends up. I quite enjoy watching this programme myself as it is perfectly harmless and I love seeing Hope's face light up as she watches it. I'm sure she thinks that these little characters are real! Now you can buy all kinds of products with these Piplings on including bed covers, birthday cards (perhaps I'll review one of them next...!), talking toys and these little soft toys.
These soft toys are only small, I would guess at about 6 inches high, we have all four of them. This Lau Lau one is probably my favourite! It is a plush toy and is stuffed quite full so it's not extremely squidgy which means it's not all that cuddly but I do think that these toys are used more as a soft interactive toy instead of a cuddly one.
Lau Lau is a bunny. She has purple fur, a pink face and big green eyes with huge eyelashes that make her look very cute! Her ears are floppy with peach inside them. She wears what looks to me a bit like a tennis dress as it's white and flares out. She is very cute. She doesn't actually do anything specific- she is just a soft toy. You can buy other versions which talk and light up and such but this is essentially just a soft toy but like I have said previously I think it's not quite squidgy enough to be cuddly. Hope tends to play with her in a more interactive way.
When Hope is playing with her Pipling toys she tends to play with them as though they are talking to each other and makes up stories with them. It's fantastic seeing her imagination coming along so well and seeing her be so creative. She doesn't need the toy to talk to her or move by itself or anything like that for her to be able to enjoy playing with it or engage with it. She likes to take Lau Lau to bed with her (along with all the others) and every morning she likes to tell me about the things which she has got up to over night! These toys have really captured her imagination and helped her to develop. Imaginative play is very important for children as it helps them to understand the world around them and to be more open minded too.
These toys are small so they are absolutely perfect for young children as they can hold them really easily. Hope has never had a problem being able to grip them and carry them around with her and they are a good size to be able to take out too as they can fit into a handbag easily. They shouldn't be put in the washing machine, they are just surface clean only so all you need to do is wipe them clean. I have found that they are starting to look a little well loved now but we have had them a long time so that is to be expected.
If your child likes Waybuloo then they'll like these little soft toys. They are nothing exciting but just the fact that they are characters that your little one will recognise will make them special and because they're only small they're easy to store!
