“ Manufacturer: Jellycat „
When my husband and I discovered that we were expecting our second child we began to buy all of the essential items that we would need, or at least those that we did not have already carefully stored away from our first child. We later discovered that we were expecting a daughter and so began to focus on some gender specific products. We began to purchase a small arrangement of first toys for her including her very first rag doll and her first Steiff toy. It was then that I stumbled across the Jellycat range of toys and was immediately taken by their charming features and attention to detail.
The Molly Mouse Hand Puppet seemed to fit perfectly as a first toy. After all it would take her a couple of months or so to learn to grasp and play with her toys, judging by the time that it took our son. In the mean time we would be able to entertain her with the puppet on our hands.
It also struck me how similar this soft hand puppet was to a comforter toy, the long dress acting as a little rag with the character's head and hands at the top. This toy would surely therefore make a lovely comforter too.
I promptly ordered and indeed rather promptly received this adorable little toy. Molly Mouse cost £8.75 from www.justjellycat.co.uk. Orders from this site which are above £10 are delivered free of charge and as I ordered a further item my order was delivered without cost.
Molly stands at 26cm high. She sports a fine cord dress with a pattern of brightly coloured flowers. At the bottom right hand side of her dress there is a label telling us that she is part of Jellycat's Floral Friends range.
The mouse's head and paws are made from soft grey fur fabric and her eyes are rather simply stitched in, rather than the plastic or glass counterparts which can be a choking hazard for young children.
Just as with all of Jellycat's delightful range this product bears a tag which outlines how it should be cleaned. It is suggested to use a damp cloth and to then dry with a hairdryer.
As aforementioned I ordered two toys from Jellycat and although I was highly impressed with the first, this item did not appear to have the same distinct quality.
I was rather disappointed that the dress, which is of course the main body, did not have any form of lining, leaving the stitching beneath somewhat bare. I also noticed that this product was scattered with small fluff particles from both the dress and from the fur used for the head and paws. It has taken me a while to remove these and the particles from the brightly coloured dress were particularly difficult to remove from the mouse's grey fur.
Despite its drawbacks this toy has however been a hit with our baby daughter. Her face lights up with enthusiasm whenever Molly Mouse greets her. It is a wonderful interactive toy and one that also works well as a first toy.
