These are not your average Alfred Hitchcock angry birds, these are furry little round creatures that seem to have quite a lot of fun!
The objective of the game is to eliminate pigs and destroy their buildings and structures at the same time. This is done by the birds launching themselves out of a giantslingshot and hitting the pigs' various constructs, henceforth eliminating them."
So there you have it, I think its a bit of a silly game but for some reason it has really captured the imagination of my little boy and some of his boy friends as they are always chatting about these birds and having little pretend fights with their angry bird toys. I also will play with him and pretend to shoot myself or this toy bird out of a catapult and it always makes him laugh which I guess is the main point really.
I'm not sure if there is a television show or another way to watch these birds other than in computer game form but what I do know is that there is masses of merchandising in all different forms that has really captured the imagination of my little one. We have an angry birds lunchbox, an angry birds metal water bottle, an angry birds t-shirt and also this angry birds red plush toy which was a very well received Christmas gift from his grandparents who knew he would love it. It was an amazon purchase and cost in the £10 region they said.
This toy is really well made in my opinion and is lovely and soft and furry. I think it really brings the red angry bird to life, as here he is in the flesh (or should I say plush!) and not just an image on the screen. My little boy can squish him and throw him to his hearts content. I think he really does look like his on screen character and has quite a fierce looking beak and big scary eyebrows that come together in a point in the middle, a very angry bird indeed!!
The plush material is very soft and good quality and the seams show no signs of wear which is great. The inside is really soft too so you can use this as a novelty sort of pillow on a bed or a nice toy to relax on or just throw it around like my little boy likes to do.
Apparently, according to an article I read, red bird is just a, "Plain old projectile birds. Will not do anything when tapped, and is not especially tough either."
These angry birds are everywhere, in grab machines, GAME, Toys R Us, everywhere. Over the past 6 months I've collected all of the 8 inch toys from various places. Sadly Dooyoo denied my suggestions to review each individually, so i'll review them as a whole.
The ones I have are all very well made, the fabric is smooth and soft and they're all stitched together well. They haven't broken and all their fabric is intact. I even keep the labels on mine to make them look more presentable. As you can tell I don't use them as toys, and instead just place them on top of the HiFi to look good.
The birds can be used as toys too, I'd recommend taking the label off before but older children probably won't mind. They are meant to be thrown about like regular soft toys so I've no doubt they'd last even with a bit of play time usage.
They're quite squishy too, you can depress them all the way to the bottom when you crush them from the top. I know this sounds a bit extreme but they are extremely soft, I'm just trying to put it in perspective.
You can buy each one individually or on eBay you can get them a lot cheaper if you buy a whole family in one auction, especially ones that end late at night. The ones in Toys R Us and GAME are very expensive. Also, they don't seem to stock every one made, sometimes they just have the main three. You can also buy the green pig.
The colours are excellent, not dark and not too bright either. The yellow one is slightly pale but the rest (especially the black and white ones) are excellent. The black and white ones aren't a sort of grey, they are bright white and jet black and the fur is quite shiny so they really look good in the sunlight.
These accurately represent the ones in the game quite well, except for the noses which I find to be disproportionately large to the rest of the face. Even on the game they're not that big and pointy!
Overall these are great as toys or just to look good on a shelf somewhere. They are great to collect or you can buy a bunch off eBay in one go. I highly recommend these for kids, or the kid in you. Adults can collect these too you know!
PLEASE NOTE: The product that I am reviewing is not exactly the same as the one pictured above, but Dooyoo have asked me to put it in this section as it is very similar. The exact toy that I am reviewing is the 8 inch standard version of the toy rather than the limited edition.
Most people, whether smartphone users or not, will be familiar with the game "Angry Birds". Although the concept of shooting birds out of a catapult towards a bunch of green, egg-stealing pigs hiding in a tower sounds rather odd, the game itself has taken the world by storm and has resulted in tens of millions of downloads. It was rather inevitable therefore, that this massively popular game would spawn a line of merchandise.
We first saw these soft toys a week or so ago, when we visited the Sea Life centre in Birmingham. In the amusements section there was a large grabber machine, full of Angry Birds toys. To make matters worse for me, someone had actually won one of these toys, which immediately got the attention of my three kids, who wanted me to win one for them too, but at £1 a go, I flatly refused and we left! Luckily, I was later able to get my hands on one completely free, when I redeemed some of my maximiles (formerly ipoints) points for my own angry bird toy. You can also buy them from Amazon for about £10.
The toy arrived in minimal packaging, just attached to a colourful cardboard plinth by means of some plastic tags, which were quickly snipped off to free the bird! Some of the toys in the series have added features such as movement or sound, but this one is just a basic plush soft toy with no extras.
I like the fact that the toy has no small parts or sharp bits, which makes it very safe for children to play with. It is made of a very soft, velevety fabric, which is very cuddly and snuggly, and filled with a really soft cushiony fibre filling. The bird is a lovely bold red colour, with a crest on the top of his head. He had embroidered eyes, which again, are safe as they cannot be pulled or chewed off. He doesn't have any legs, but he has a cute little black tail, which looks like a three fingered glove! The crest and tail are sewn on tightly and there is no danger of them being pulled off. The toy is made to a very high standard. The bird also has a triangular yellow beak, but this is filled with very soft fibre filling and is not sharp in any way.
My little boy, who is six, loves to cuddle the bird and make up stories with him and his other toys. Because the bird is quite a round shape, the kids also like to kick him round the floor like a football or try to juggle him and play catch with him. We also like to make our own version of the Angry Birds game, where the kids run around the living room and I throw the bird at them, as they are trying to dodge out of the way. We also like to line up soft toys along the back of the settee and throw the bird at them, trying to knock them down.
Our red angry bird is a very high quality toy, which is well made and very soft and cuddly. He has become quite the favourite in our house and I would love to buy some more of the toys in the same range, especially the green pigs, which look really funny. The kids are always cuddling and playing with the toy bird, so I just can't understand why he looks so angry....!
If you're looking at this toy and wandering just what the heck it's all about, you obviously need to update your mobile phone! If you're an iPhone or Android Phone user and STILL you don't know all about these little fellas... where have you been for the last 12 months (since Dec 2009 to be exact)?!
For the uninitiated, Angry Birds is the hit Android/iPhone game where you catapult a variety of cute birds across the screen with the ultimate aim of obliterating a clan of evil green pigs and retrieving your stolen eggs... Confused? I can't blame you!
So anyway, it appears that the phenomenon that is Angry Birds is now expanding into soft toys, and why not? These toys are pretty expensive for what they are but with a bit of imagination and rearranging of furniture you can recreate the game in your own living room!! I wouldn't recommend using real life pigs (where'd you get them from in the heart of Metropolis and how would you make them green!?) and I wouldn't recommend an actual catapult, however I would recommend placing non breakable, soft objects on your settee, footstool, coffee table etc and then challenging your friends to see who can wreak the most havoc with the fewest throws!
And if you didn't want to do that, well I guess you could cuddle up to it, put it on display somewhere or stick it to your window (mine came with a suction pad thingy on a piece of string). But where's the fun in that?!
The build quality of these soft toys appears to be pretty good, the stitching is all tight and the toy is incredibly soft. There are no small pieces so they should be small child friendly. I'm not sure that they'd be washing machine safe but they do wipe clean pretty well with a wet cloth, just don't drop it in your Bolognese and you should be fine.
