A lovely monkey beanie to add to your collection

There are so many Beanie Babies to choose from that sometimes you just don't want to have to make the choice between one or another, but as any avid beanie collector knows, eventually you end up with a whole variety of animals that could easily fill a very large beanie safari park. One of those beanie toys that begged to be taken home is Fumbles the monkey.

Fumbles is a cheeky little monkey for sure, with his long sinuous arms and legs and his long monkeys tail, he looks every inch a naughty little monkey. I really like his expression as he looks as though he is really paying attention to you, with his alert looking black eyes. Mind you, I have a feeling he is just looking out for where his next bunch of bananas are going to come from!

His mouth is a slim black line of thread which doesn't give away too much about him, yet gives him an interesting expression and it matches the material used to out line the v shape of his nose. I don't think he needs anything else to make him look cute and his face is very attractive in its simplicity, in fact anything that was larger than life would have spoilt him.

The fur used for Fumbles is very nice indeed. Its a lovely slightly messy and tousled looking warm and golden, light honey brown. Its a little longer than the usual short pile velveteen plush that is used with many of the Ty beanies and I feel that it suits him and gives him that just, swung through the trees and gotten a little messy look, which every cheeky monkey has.

We bought Fumbles for £5.99 and at the time that was a more than fair price to pay for him. He was first seen in and around the shops looking for a loving home just after his release in December 2004. As soon as we saw him we admired him and wanted to add him to our hug of beanies.

His tummy and body, except his head are filled with tiny plastic pellets or beans and these give him a slightly weighty feel and enable him to sit up right without being knocked over. His head is filled with a softer stuffing like that which is used in the bodies of most other soft toys.

Fumbles has paws and pads that match the colour of the fur used for his face and insides of his ears. Its a much shorter pile fur and is a nice soft light beige colour that co-ordinates well with his main fur colour. His ears are quite big and are set quite widely apart on the sides of his head. They seem very handy for listening to stuff he shouldn't, as all cheeky monkeys do! I think they give him a good balanced look over all.

Fumbles comes with a red and white Ty heart shaped tag, which shows he is one of the very popular Ty Beanie Baby collectables. What started as a small group of nine beanies soon expanded and became the successful and well loved beanies that they are today.

Fumbles has his very own birthday, just in case you want to throw him a party, set a date in your calendar for the 1st of September. He will be 9 next birthday, but still looks as sweet as he ever did and hasn't seemed to age at all, I can't spot a grey hair anywhere!

The poem for Fumbles is within his Ty tag and reads as follows:

Through the jungle high and low
Up and down and around I go
Look at me swing from tree to tree
Won't you come and play with me ?

I think the poem for him is quite a good one. Sometimes they are very difficult to say in rhyme but this one seems ok and it rather suits him too.

As with all beanie toys, he shouldn't be stuffed into the washing machine if he gets dirty. A quick surface clean should be enough to freshen him up. If he is being bought as a gift for a child then his Ty tag should be removed for safety. Although a collector wouldn't dream of taking his tag off and would want it to be in 100% mint condition.

Fumbles was retired in December 2005, but can still be found for sale in shops selling collectables or online at Ebay UK and also Amazon. He may also be found for sale on specialist collector websites.

As far as beanies go, I think Fumbles is an outstanding little monkey, which any child or collector would love as a gift. I would expect to pay around £6 to £10 for Fumbles. Fumbles gets a 5 star rating too.
