My old 21 month old son loves the TV programme Peppa Pig and if we see anything Peppa Pig related in the shops he spots it straight away and points to it saying Peppa. For Christmas he received quite a lot of Peppa Pig related items, however it is quite hard to find things that are suitable for boys, a lot of Peppa Pig merchandise is quite girly. For Christmas my Parents put a TY George Pig Beanie in Jaydens stocking, this was extremely cute and Jayden loved it, as soon as he saw it Christmas morning he pointed at it and said Peppa.
The TY George Beanie is basically a little soft toy George Pig, he is made from a soft plush material and has the distinctive pale pink head, arms and legs with a blue body and black shoes which George wears on the TV programme. All of Georges features like eyes, nose and mouth are stitched directly onto his face so there are no small parts that can come off and cause problems. George is holding his favourite toy, a dinosaur, this is tucked under his arm and stitched in place, this is made from the same soft material but in green, this could be pulled off so you do need to be careful with this.
George Pig is actually a beanie and has small beans in the base of him, this allows you to sit him down and he will stay in place and not fall over, this could be a problem for small children if there was a hole in the material and the beans came out, this is why this toy is not recommended for children under 36 months, however Jayden is never left alone with his George beanie and most of the time it is sat on his chest of draws in his bedroom where he can see it but he cannot reach it, if he wants it someone has to get it for him so that he can be watched at all times with it.
The TY George Beanie measures 13.6x8.4x8cm and weighs 100g, it is a good size for little hands to manage, it is nice and chunky without being too big to move around and handle. There is nothing educational about this toy, it could help to develop your child's imaginative play but that is about it, it is more of a fun toy or something you would put in your child's room rather than something they would use to learn with.
As I have mentioned my Parents bought this for Jayden, however I do know that it is available from places online such as Amazon and I did at one point see them sold in Next. This is sold for around £5.00 to £6.00 however this depends a little on where you purchase it from. Personally I think this is worth the money as it is of an excellent quality and finished to a high standard, also it is part of the official Peppa Pig merchandise.
Since Jayden has had his George Pig Beanie he has played with it on several occasions but only when supervised by either me or my Husband and we never let him take it to bed with him. When he isn't playing with it George sits on his chest of draws opposite his cot and makes a cute addition to his bedroom. In my opinion I would say that this is worth the money, it is suitable for both boys and girls which as I have mentioned can be a bit of a problem with Peppa Pig items, with Peppa being a pig and pink a lot of the products can come across as a bit girly. I would definitely recommend this item to anyone whose child is a fan of Peppa Pig.
I was in Sainsburys acouple months before Christmas, and I was checking out the offers on the toys in their store. I always try and buy things when on offer and put them down, ready for Christmas, birthdays etc. When I noticed that the Peppa Pig and George Pig soft toys were on offer I had to buy-but I couldnt decide which one for which kid.The problem that I had was my son WAS mad on Peppa, but with age and him getting bigger, not so much.My daughter started to get into Peppa so I knew she definitely would love a teddy, but I find if I give one child something I have to give the other something too, or theres World War 3! So in the end I opted for the large Peppa Pig teddy for my daughter, and the small George Pig beanie toy for my son. I thought this was a good compromise. The big Peppa was around £8.00, the small George £4.00.
Who is George Pig?
George is the 2 year old brother of fictious cartoon character Peppa Pig.The series folows Peppa, her family and friends living their everyday life and having lots of fun doing it! All the characters are animals but do all the normal stuff such as going to school, work, shopping, holiday etc. This programme is poplular with young children, especially pre school children and due to its popularity, it has spawned numerous products available for sale such as clothing, shoes, toys, books, DVDs etc.
What does this toy look like?
Its around 7inches high and 6 inches across ( with his little arms spread out though ). His head is soft and squishy, as if filled with some form of stuffing and the body ( tummy area ) is filled with some form of circular small beads, so it has a bean bag texture to it. George has tiny little arms and legs to match. These areas, along with his head, are pink and his tummy area blue ( for his clothes of course! ).Head complete with with cute stuck up ears, big eyes with an even bigger smile and snout to boot.
To touch hes very soft and touchable.Very tactle and I defy anyone not to want to give him a touch or cuddle.
He did have his favourite toy stitched to his hand, which was his dinosaur, but my daughter ripped it off!
So what do i think of this toy?
Its so cute and adorable. The perfect size for children. The Peppa Pig one I bought for my daughter was huge , nearly the same size as her, and was stuffed from head to toe rather than having a bean bag type texture to it around the middle.Neither of my children have been bothered with her!I think the sheer size of it means its not the easiest or the most comfortable to hold, so they just dont bother. This one is different. They both throw George around, hug him, fall asleep on him. Hes perfect.
Hes still very clean, surprisingly, but I think he would survice a wash in the washing machine and left to air dry just fine.
Would I buy again? Yes-but would stick with the smaller size.Easy to play with, easier to hold and easier to cart around with us out and about if needed.
My son has three of these Ty George Pig's in different sizes. we had bought him the largest one (15") from The Entertainer toy shop, it was on offer for £15 but usually retails closed to £20. He has also been given the smaller (7") and medium (12") sized George's as gifts, I have seen these on amazon for around £6 and £10.
For anyone who doesn't know, George Pig is the little brother of Peppa Pig. Peppa Pig is a brilliant cartoon aimed at young children and seems to be a massive hit! My son who is now 21 months has loved Peppa Pig for a while and George certainly seems to be his favourite.
The George Pig toy is made from soft material and is nicely padded. Although there are no dangerous button type eyes, the toys do contain beans as they are beanie baby type toys. They are recommended for over 36 months but I think they are safe for my almost 2 year old and we have never had any problems with any of the 3 George's he owns. Obviously use your own discretion when deciding if they would be suitable for your child.
The George toys are pretty much identical to the cartoon character, pink face, arms and legs, with a blue torso (his clothing). The only difference being that unlike the cartoon, each eye is on a separate side of George's head, but I do think the toy would have looked odd if they had tried to replicate the cartoon with two eyes on one side. George is, as he often is in the cartoon, holding his green toy Mr Dinosaur. Mr Dinosaur is sewn onto George's body and also sewn too his left hand. On all three George's that my son owns the stitching that attached the dinosaur to George's hand has come undone, this doesn't really cause any problems though and the dinosaur has stayed attached to George's body.
My son absolutely loves these toys, he takes the medium sized one to bed every night and loves to give the big George cuddles. The smaller sized George easily fits into my bag and is often taken out with us.
The Ty George Pig is not machine washable and has to just be wiped down with a damp cloth, this seems to be keeping the toys clean enough.
I would definitely recommend these soft toys!
While spending the weekend in Llandudno a couple of weeks ago I was looking for something for my two year old granddaughter, I had given her big sisters their own spending money but on the last day I took the little one into a souvenir shop in order to get her a little treat.
We looked high and low but there was nothing suitable for a two year old, resigning myself to buying her clothes (My Mum Went To Llandudno And All She Brought Me Back Was This T-Shirt and other such 'amusing' items) and sweets. That was until we popped to Caernarfon on our way home and I happened to see a selection of TY beanie toys featuring all the characters from Peppa Pig.
Now, those of you who are aware of the Peppa Pig television programme will know that buying Peppa items is easy now - however, little George is not so hard to find and as my granddaughter has such a large collection of Peppa items the omission of George is her toybox was something I immediately addressed when I saw this collection of toys.
The George beanie is absolutely fantastic. He looks just like the cute little piggy we are so used to seeing on television and is even carrying a lovely felt depiction of his dinosaur (Rarrr!) which Peppa fans will know he doesn't go anywhere without.
As you'd expect from TY, George is wonderfully made. He is apparently suitable for children from 36 months, but I don't see the problem with giving him to a younger child as there is absolutely nothing that could harm or cause any cause for concern. The stitching on George is straight and hidden, all seams are expertly done and even his eyes are stitched into his face as opposed to the more dangerous button eyes.
George is rendered to look exactly like his character on the television programme, he is wearing his sweet little blue outfit and has a rather oversized head with thin and spindly limbs. Even his facial expression is what you would expect to see - apart from the fact that he is usually crying on the Peppa Pig programme and he looks positively cheerful here!
Although this is a beanie, in my opinion it's far more of a plush toy as there are very few 'beans' in the toy. George is plenty cuddly enough for my granddaughter to take him to bed but the beans which are located in his bottom are perfect for making him sit up comfortably - ideal really as my granddaughter is now at the stage where she wants to play tea parties with her teddies and gets very frustrated when they won't sit up straight!
I'm so glad I found this shop selling all these lovely beanie toys. My granddaughter absolutely adores George despite the fact that he doesn't really do anything, there are no flashing lights or talking here, but he fits in with her Peppa Pig collection so beautifully that she is content to have him as a simple cuddly toy.
