A cute winged bear for your beanie collection

Our Ty Herald the Angel Bear is just one of the large range of Ty Beanie Babies produced by Ty Inc, USA. We like everyone else at the time, loved the cute little beanie toys and quickly became the proud owners of a number of them including this cute angel bear. Herald is just gorgeous and is a cute variation on the general theme of Ty beanie bears.

Herald the Angel Bear is amongst good company indeed, he is a variation on the many Ty winged bears. Herald was bought for £4.99 at a local toy store opening, way back in 2002 and at the time we thought that was a fair price to pay for him.

The beanies were first released for sale in 1993 with Brownie and Punchers coming out first. Later that year a small set of beanies including the original 2 came into being. The range included 9 different plush animal babies and the Beanie Babies collecting mania followed shortly after. The original 9 Beanies included: Brownie (later renamed Cubby the Bear), Pinchers the Lobster, (these were the first 2 beanies). Then Legs the Frog, Squealer the Pig, Flash the Dolphin, Patti the Platypus, Chocolate the Moose, Spot the Dog and Splash the Whale were released to the world at the New York Toy Fair.

Our Ty Herald bear was never one of the premium priced beanie bears, at his highest price I think he was selling for £20. This seemed cheap when compared to some bears! I recall a lady who bought Germania, the 1998 brown german exclusive bear for a whopping £110, saying she had been taken over by the collecting bug and was secretly hoarding a mega stash of Beanie Babies, at home in the under bed storage drawers.

Herald is a lovely soft white plush bear, filled so that he has a lovely soft and cuddly, but weighty feel about him for such a little fella. He is surface washable if needed. But as with many of these bears, who were sold to avid collectors, he hasn't been played with! In fact most Herald Bears will never have been handled much, so don't need such drastic cleaning as they would be devalued by it.

Heralds angel wings are lovely and have a light shimmery sheen to them with added sparkles. He has a black little nose and small beady black eyes, with cute ears set to the side of his head. I think he has a happy look about him too.

Herald has a little heart shaped Ty tag in his ear which tells you his name and date of birth and has his own cute poem typed in the middle of the tag.
Herald was born in January 2002 according to his tag.
      His poem reads as follows:

I am an angel from up above
I bring you thoughts of peace and love!
With a prayer and a wish I'll fly
      Beyond the beautiful blue sky!

Each and every Ty Beanie Baby has its own ear tag complete with these details, but you can also if you wish purchase your beanie plush his very own beanie passport, so that he can travel with you when you go on holiday!

Herald whilst having been discontinued some time ago, is still available to buy for those who didn't manage to pick him up when he first appeared. There are many sites still showing stocks of the bear including Amazon, but he can often be found for sale on sites like Ebay too.

Although Herald is a plush toy he and many of the other beanies are collected and not played with much. A mint condition beanie must be 100% with the Ty heart shaped ear tag in tip top condition. If you are buying for a child to play with, then removal of the tag would be best, but a collector would want to keep him 100% original. We have a few of these angel bears and sometimes use them at christmas time in place of the traditional christmas fairy.
