It's not as soft as other beanies' fur, but it is still quite fuzzy and warm. It would at first seem like Herder is made of nothing more than stuffing fluff, but you will notice that in his rear end and in his paws he actually has lots of little beans. Note: This review is based on my own experience! I adore the TY beanie range. When I was younger I'd find great enjoyment in taking my pocket money to a toy shop and rummaging through the shelves of teddies to find a new TY beanie to add to my collection. There is so much variety, from bears and beavers to cats and crabs. There are quite a few dogs in the collection too, one of which is Herder. The name 'Herder' is very appropriate for this beanie.
