Advantages: Passes the time

Disadvantages: Glitches

This is one of those games that I constantly heard about through my friends sending requests for lives and extra items; I hate these requests and do get annoyed at the constant notifications in my phone. However, I then started seeing statuses about it and thought I would download the app to my phone to give it a go as I am always trying to find a decent game to occupy my time.

The purpose of the game is to match a minimum of three or more of the same coloured candys to remove them from the game. Getting three of the same colour only scores low; four matched and you get a special striped candy which would remove a row of candys when matched with a minimum of two same coloured candys. Five candys matched in a L shape or row creates a wrapped sweet or multi coloured sweet which remove all of one colour from the board or blow up and area twice. By mixing these special candys other special moves can be unlocked such as the super sweet and lightening bolts; effectively the more you match the more you score.

Each level has a target which starts off as a score on the early levels but moves are always restricted and the objectives must be completed within the set amount of moves or you lose a life. The boards are generally gridded and take many shapes as you progress the levels which get more difficult containing obstacles the harder it gets.

The obstacles start off as simple as crushing jelly by matching the coloured candys contained within it; this then progresses to time trials which are actually easier and time can be gained from special moves. Harder levels then have blocks which become jelly so require more matches before they disappear and I am currently at a level with wire covered blocks requiring special candys to unlock them.

The game gives you five lives on the app and five on the facebook page which regenerate one at a time every thirty minutes but you can ask your friends to send you them (or pay outside of the app for more but I do not do this).

The app can be linked to your Facebook account so that you can beat the scores of your friends and ask them for special gifts and lives in the game. The game can also be played offline and then synced when you are ready.

I like the game but it can be a little addictive and I do spend a few hours on it. Some levels are annoying especially if you get stuck and cannot move on as the lives do not regenerate very quickly. I also find the hints of where to move a little annoying and this can distract me from finding a more useful move. There are also a few glitches where the game will just switch off when I am in the middle of a level and then the game wastes one of my lives which can be frustrating.

I would recommend the free app to people who like these puzzle games and have some spare time on their hands.

Summary: A good free app for puzzling
