      A fun app....for a while

A couple of months ago I downloaded and got into the latest Iphone craze which was Draw Something. Several months down the line is it still the 'big thing' or has all the hype worn out?

      **The Basics**

Draw Something is an app that is available to download via the app store. The aim of the game is similar to that of Pictionary in which you are given the choice of 3 items to draw and your opponent has to guess what it is. You are awarded either 1, 2 or 3 coins depending on the difficulty of the item that you have chosen to draw.

      **Game play**

This is a game that can be played with people you know or complete strangers. The game can search users via your facebook page or it can search for users around the world, this means that there is always somebody to have a draw something battle with.

This is a very easy game to play as you simply have to do what it says, draw something! You use your finger tips or a stylus to draw onto your screen which is simple enough.

All the tools you would need to create your masterpiece are available on the screen. You have several colours to choose from and a choice of pencil thickness. When you first start to play the game your colour choice is pretty basic however the more you play the more coins you earn which enables you to buy more colour packs. This is a good idea as it makes you want to play the game more.

Now what happens with Draw Something is once you have created your drawing it will then get sent to your opponent for them to guess and then send a drawing back for you to return the favour. The majority of the time I have found that this goes through absolutely fine however a couple of times the drawing has not sent through and I have had to do it again. This can be annoying when you have drawn a masterpiece!

Another problem I have had with this game is not really to do with the game but more my impatience. This is probably not a game you could play if you are doing something to pass the time unless you have either got several games of draw something going on or you have friends who are very quick to respond. I hate having to wait so tend to play this more with my other half when he is on the room and I know he will reply!

      **Fun Factor**

When this game was first available on the app store and all of my friends downloaded it I found that it was a really fun a great game as it was something that I hadn't seen before on this platform. It was exciting, puzzling and also on times quite hysterical when the drawings were completely terrible.

However, after several weeks it became quite old and it became more of a hassle to respond to drawings. It also became quite boring as you get so many repeats of words; I think I must have drawn 'Scotland' about 10 times.

      **Price and availability**

You can download a free version on this game on the app store. With the free version you will get an advert pop up at the end of your games which doesn't bother me however I know these sorts of things can get on peoples nerves as it did my other half so you can purchase the full version for £1.99.

      **Conclusion**

I think this is a game that you have to try as it is something different which has all the components of a great app. I will probably play it again in the future but for now the hype over it amongst people I know has decreased dramatically since its release. I would rate this app 3 out of 5.

Well this is one of the games that I find most of my friends playing through Facebook. The application is pretty easy and is found on Android phones and the Iphone. This is free on both, and can me found in marketplace on the android or the app store on your iphone.

Once you have downloaded it you can connect with friends through your facebook account, or you can just play a random player who you do not know.
When you start a new game you get the options of 3 different things to draw, each has its own difficulty, the first is worth one coin if the opponent guesses it correctly, the second is worth 2 coins, and the third is worth 3 coins.

When you draw you have the option of different widths of lines, and different colours so that you can colour it in to make it easy to guess. There is also an erasure incase you make a mistake or you can just totally delete the picture and start again, which you will need if you draw anything like me.
When you have finished your picture you send the picture to your opponent and then you have to wait until they guess or give up. Then they will draw a picture and send you once back which then you have to guess.

When you have a picture to guess, you have a row of 10 letters to pick from which so many of the letters will form the word of the picture that you draw. The game is as simple as that.
If I am totally honest this is a very good game to play with your friends, but I am not a very good drawer so I sort of gave up on this game. But I really can not fault the game in one bit. It can keep you entertained for hours and I would recommend it to download, and it is free.

      A fun app

I decided to treat myself to an iPad 3 a couple of months ago, justifying it because it would be really useful for my studies as I could take it to tutorials and refer to my textbooks in PDF rather than carrying a number of back breakingly heavy books around with me every day. The iPad is great for that but of course I do use it for fun too! Draw Something is one of my favourite apps which I have downloaded and I have played it quite regularly since I got the iPad.

Draw Something can be downloaded in a free version which includes some adverts which briefly show on screen before you click through to your turn. There is also a paid version but I only have the free one, so I can't comment on whether paying is worth it. The free version is the full app and I think the only difference is the ads. Other people who I know with Draw Something also just have the free one.

The game is quite similar to the well known game Pictionary. To play Draw Something, you are given three choices of words to draw. These range from easy to medium to hard, with harder ones being worth more coins. You draw the word with your fingers on the touch screen and the other player watches. The other player has certain letters at the bottom of their screen as they watch, including the letters needed to create the word. If they guess correctly, you both get points.

Drawing on the app is easy and fun. You start off with a limited number of colours but you can "buy" more with the coins you win for guessing correctly. You generally need about 249 coins to purchase a pack of colours and it is not too long or hard to get enough coins if you play it quite regularly. I have bought quite a few extra colour packs. The original colours you get are a bit limited and most notably there is no green, meaning some supposedly easy words for example pea or tree could be quite hard to draw! It is not possible to mix colours - if for example you try to mix green by colouring yellow then blue on top, only the blue will show up. You have different thicknesses of brush to choose from and there is also an eraser which can be made thicker or thinner. The tools are not too fancy and are similar to basic ms paint type brushes, but most people seem to stick to fairly simple drawings so it is fine!

As well as buying extra colour packs you can also buy "bombs". These can be used in two ways, either to reduce the letters on screen when guessing a word, to make the guessing easier, or to purchase a wider choice of words to draw and access the bonus themed words which can often give you he possibility of earning a lot more coins, e.g. Sometimes about 9 coins can be won per word compared to max 3 for a normal hard word.

To find competitors you can link it to your Facebook and play your friends or alternatively you can seek a game and the app finds a random player for you. I like to do this to find others willing to play although you do find some on there who don't play properly and insist on just writing the word, which defeats the object in my opinion! It is worth mentioning that you don't need to be online at the same time. You do your move then the other responds when they see it which can be within a few minutes or a few days.

The one negative which I have to mention is that the app can occasionally be glitchy. On A few occasions it seems to have lost drawings or has not alerted my opponent of my move. The other day I drew "gangnam style" for my sister and she told me she had seen it and sent me a picture back, but it never appeared! Now neither of us can go as it says it's the other ones turn to each of us which doesn't make sense. This is a bit annoying.

Apart from the odd glitch I do really like this game and I think it is great fun entertainment for free. I would recommend it to anyone with an iPad of iPhone.

A fantastic OMGPOP game for my iPad and one I would firmly recommend.

I am the lucky owner of an iPad 3 that my husband treated me too and regularly I visit the app store to stock up on games and applications that I feel might be fun or might provide some sort of enhancement to my life in some way. One of the first games that I downloaded after setting up my iPad 3 was 'Draw Something' by OMGPOP. There were two versions available to me and I went for the paid version which is 69p (usually) and contains extra words and has no adverts at all. I have a number of games that I have paid for just because of the adverts as they do annoy the heck out of me. I personally feel that my 69p was well spent but if you're happy to put up with a few adverts on your game and possibly seeing the same words time and time again then the free version will be fine for you.

Downloading the game took just under a minute, for me at least, and was smooth and simple. All I had to do was click my selection, press buy, enter my e-mail address and password to confirm my identity and the I could have the payment taken directly from my bank account and therefore not have to worry about forgetting to pay for it or anything like that. Payment left my bank account within three working days and it cleared with no problems or anything like that, also, I've not had any problems with money disappearing from my bank account since setting a password on my iTunes account.

The concept of this game is incredibly simple. You will play against your opponent (choose to play a random one, by typing in username or selecting someone from your Facebook friends list who already plays it or even invite someone from Facebook who doesn't!). You will see three words on the screen, each word one more point than the previous and the word you select you then have to draw something that lets your opponent know what the word is without actually writing the word out.

Starting up the game is simple and you will need to set up an account so that your friends or even random opponents may be able to find you. You will need to provide a username and an e-mail address for this and the registration process takes just 30 seconds or so before you're ready to play. I actually used my Facebook account to connect to this, all I had to do was press a button and I declined any options that included posting on my behalf or accessing my status updates etc before confirming and this was very simple to do.

When it comes down to playing the actual game it is very simple. I just set up a new game (or continue an existing one) and then select the word I want to play. If none of the words appeal to me there is an option to press a 'bomb' and this then removes those words and replaces them with new ones. There was around 10 or so 'bombs' free with this when I got it and there is the option to purchase more using £'s but I have opted out of doing this so far. I started the game with just four colours to use and since then I have been spending the coins that I accumulate buying new colours with the average 'pack' of colours costing 249 coins and there is an option to buy coins for £'s if you choose too but I prefer to save my money for other games and earn coins the hard/interesting way. Once I have drawn my picture (with the option to change pen widths and erase any work) I just press send and it goes off to my opponent usually arriving with them within just a few seconds. Once my opponent has drawn back I can see them guessing my drawing and then I have their drawing loading on the screen with lots of letters at the bottom. Mixed in with all the letters are the letters that I need to solve the drawing. If I am stumped I have the option to use a 'bomb' and clear some of the excess letters making it easier for me to solve the word and move on to drawing again. There is also an option to send an additional message but I never really use this, other than to mock my best friend when she has failed to get an obvious word such as cherry or something like that. While you play against the same opponent your turn timer will go up one for each correctly guessed word but if your opponent or yourself presses the 'pass' button then your turn timer will reset and the word will be displayed on the screen. The turn timer currently goes up to 999 and members with 100 or more can request to join the 'century club' via the Drawsomething Facebook application.

Drawing really is not a strength of mine but I find this game addictive, fun and easy to play. I love waiting for my friends to reply and waiting to see if they have been able to guess my drawings. I have seen some words on quite a few occasions (including my name!) and I've learnt how to draw lots of different things, partly thanks to playing this and partly thanks to the Facebook page.

The only downside to this game is that sometimes you will get someone who just spells out the word for every single game. I understand sometimes it might be hard to select a word or someone might select one by accident (I've done this myself) but it just grates on me when someone NEVER makes an effort to try and draw something. That's just a bug bear of mine and it doesn't stop me playing the game, however, I do tend to delete the game with people like that just to avoid wasting my time on a game that isn't very fun for me.

In all I love playing this game and I'm going to give it 5/5. It loads quickly, there is a free version available, I can play despite not being a fantastic artist and it allows me to have fun whenever I like. I like turning on my iPad or glancing at it to find some requests waiting for me and I am always entertained with my iPad in my hands!

        Draw something!

I have the Samsung S3 and recently browsed the Google Play App store for some Apps for my phone. My boyfriend has an App called Draw Something which I believe has been a very popular game, especially for iphone users which I what my boyfriend is. The game is free and only took a few seconds to download to my phone. An icon of a pencil with a blue background now appears under my Apps which is the actual game.

        ~ About the game ~
The game is by Zynga and the main game is drawing using your finger/stylus on the touch-screen. You will take it in turns with the other player to draw an item which appears on the list. The other player then watches you draw the picture and you can see them try to guess what the picture is using the selection of letter which appears at the bottom of the page. You can earn different amount of coins depending on whether you guess the picture or not and whether you player guesses the picture too. The words cna include anything such as Hot Dog, Homer, J-Lo, Golf Buggy, Bagpipes, Lollipop, Stereo and lots more!

~ Playing for the first time ~
When you first load the game you can choose to sync it to facebook or not. I decided to do this as it would be easier when creating games with people who are actually on my facebook. It gave me a list of people on my facebook who also has the app and gave me the choice whether I wanted to start a game with them or not. I decided to start a game with a friend of mine who was on facebook so I clicked on her to begin a game. There was a list of three words in which I had to choose one to drawer. Each word is worth a different amount of coins, this starts from one and goes up to three. If that person guesses your picture both you and them will be awarded with that number of coins which correspond to the picture you choose to drawer. I chose the 2nd word on the list which was Homer. This then took me to the drawing screen, where there are 3 colours to choose from including Black, Red, Blue & Yellow. You can also choose the size of the nib you are using as well from very thin to fat. There is an eraser at the bottom of the screen so you can erase any mistakes that you make. The screen on my phone is quite sensitive anyway so I didn't have any issues when trying to draw the picture as it seemed to pick up what I wanted to draw very easily. As there are no green or other colours there you do have to just improvise a little using a different colour for the green. Once you have drawn the picture simply click done and it will send a notification to that person stating that it's now their go to play. After you have completed a drawing you will get adverts which are the downside to this game as on my phone you can't seem to skip the adverts and this sometimes makes the game freeze. How-ever on the iPhone my boyfriend can simply skip the adverts with no problems.

At the beginning of the game you will notice a bomb symbol, which can help you when guessing your other players picture. If you hit the bomb symbol, this will take away some of the words enabling you to have less words to choose from to try and guess the picture. As you guess each other pictures it will number the turns and note whether you have a new record or not. For example me and my boyfriend have had 21 turns and have managed to guess each others pictures (no cheating involved). If someone doesn't guess the picture and chooses to pass then the turn starts back at one again and you won't have been awarded any extra coins. The coins can eventually be used to purchase more colours for the game as you are limited in colours when you first play the game. How-ever I am led to believe that you need a lot of coins for this. Of course you can choose to buy coins using a debit/credit card which also gives you longer lists of items to choose from and you can buy more bombs.

~ Disadvantages to the game ~
        * Adverts which don't seem to skip on my phone despite un-installing and reinstalling the app 2-3 times.
        * The game often freezes.
        * The game often misses goes. I had to drawer 3 different pictures before my boyfriend received a notification saying it was his go.

~ Advantages ~* Get creative drawing pictures
        * Buy more colours and other items
        * Entertaining seeing the pictures your other players have drawn

        ~ Overall Opinion ~
This game is great fun when it loads properly and when it doesn't freeze. At first I thought that this may have been a problem with my phone personally, how-ever a lot of people seem to be having the same problems with not being able to skip adverts and the game freezing and also missing turns. I only play this game a few times a week, as the problems with it do put me off. I know this game was very popular when it first came out, how-ever it doesn't seem to be as popular anymore due to all the problems people have with the app. I would recommend it to others as a creative and fun game to play every now and then. Due to all the problems I have had with this app I can how-ever only give it 2 out of 5 stars. If this was improved then I would gladly give it the more stars it really deserves!

A great little app that anyone can play

          Draw something

I'll apologise before I start because if you have read any of my iPhone App reviews you'll know I can sometimes get a little carried away. I am after all somewhat addicted to these game Apps.

This particular App I decided to download because it was free, however after playing for a short time I decided I had to upgrade to the paid for version, this meant no ads and more words so for 69p I freed myself from those annoying ads. The game itself is pretty basic and straight to the point, so much so that any age group would be comfortable playing it. The basic idea is to choose a word from a list of three, draw the word then send it off to your opponent for them to guess it correctly, win some coins and send you a drawing back and that's it.

          All about Draw Something...

When you begin the game you are invited to make an account which includes your username and email address. You can also connect to Facebook through this game but I don't know much about that because I don't use Facebook myself. I connected with my email address and that works well enough for me. I then was given the option to find players, I could look for players in several different ways which are, Email, Facebook friends or random. If I knew of anyone else with the game and knew their username I could also connect with them that way.

          Playing the game...

Once connected with another player I was able to choose a word from the list of three, the easiest word on the list is worth one coin, the next is a little harder worth two coins and the last is usually quite a difficult word but gives you three coins. If I decide that all three words are too difficult for me to draw, I have the option of using a bomb to get three new words. Bombs can be bought for coins. So after I have chosen which word to draw, I just touch the correct area of the screen and get on with it. In the beginning I had four basic colours to use, but this is what the coins are all about because you can buy different colour sets, which for me personally makes the game more fun to play with lots more colours to choose from. Once I finish my picture and I'm happy with it I can send it off to my opponent, I can also send a message with the picture if I choose, as the option is there should I decide to use it. Once I receive a drawing back from my opponent, I have to guess what the picture is; I'm given several letters to choose from in order to make the word that represents the drawing. Sometimes the pictures I get sent are impossible to guess even with the letters there in front of me to help, because of this there is the bomb option again, a bomb gets rid of some of the letters in the list making it slightly easier to guess what the picture is. More bombs can be bought for coins should I run out. The game then continues backwards and forwards, each time my turn is recorded and it's fun to see how far I can get before someone passes and I have to start from turn one again, I believe since updates the highest turn to reach is 999. I've managed to get to turn hundred and something before my opponent passed on one of my pictures and we found ourselves at level one again.

You don't need to be Picasso to play...

Under no circumstances do you have to be able to draw really well to play this game, it's just a bit of fun to play with your friends. I've had words sometimes just written on the screen when I tap to guess. I guess that's because some people do struggle to draw some of the words, so they just write the word across the screen. It does sort of take the fun out of the game and what I'd call cheating but hey, it's just a game and it's supposed to be fun for everyone. If I get a really good picture through from someone I'll save it and maybe post it on Twitter, there are options to send the pictures to Twitter and Facebook or you can just save them. If you draw a good picture yourself you can save that also.

If you play, please add me to your list...

I have been playing Draw something for a few months now but I usually have to choose random for my opponents, this is okay but I always seem to be waiting for them to send me another picture and me being me, I just want to play and play. The only people I know will send me pictures are my son and my daughter but even they have become slack in sending pictures back to me. As I'm not on Facebook I can't add friends from there so if any of you reading this have this iPhone App or are thinking of getting it please add me to your list of players, because I won't keep you waiting for a picture I promise.

          My username (Myredpip)

          To conclude...

So, this little App is a real hit and very popular with a lot of people and I'm not surprised really. It's quite an addictive little game and very enjoyable to play. Maybe I am a bit over the top with my games but I just love it when I notice I have pictures ready and waiting for me to guess. I like the fact that when a new picture is sent to me, I'm given the option to watch my own picture which I sent, being drawn again and I can see exactly which point of me drawing it that they guessed the word. I don't have to sit through this though, I can just skip it if I choose, but sometimes it's fun to watch.

I think I've covered about everything, but there has been a recent update which has given the game a whole new look so there may be a few new things I've missed, but either way the game in my opinion is well worth 69p. Made and produced by OMGPOP available from the App store on iTunes, also available on Android. Download the free version and see what you think.

Thank you for reading my review which may also appear on other sites.
