Advantages: Great fun drawing & guessing pictures
Disadvantages: App often crashes/freezes a lot, Lots of adverts
I have the Samsung S3 and recently browsed the Google Play App store for some Apps for my phone. My boyfriend has an App called Draw Something which I believe has been a very popular game, especially for iphone users which I what my boyfriend is. The game is free and only took a few seconds to download to my phone. An icon of a pencil with a blue background now appears under my Apps which is the actual game.
~ About the game ~
The game is by Zynga and the main game is drawing using your finger/stylus on the touch-screen. You will take it in turns with the other player to draw an item which appears on the list. The other player then watches you draw the picture and you can see them try to guess what the picture is using the selection of letter which appears at the bottom of the page. You can earn different amount of coins depending on whether you guess the picture or not and whether you player guesses the picture too. The words cna include anything such as Hot Dog, Homer, J-Lo, Golf Buggy, Bagpipes, Lollipop, Stereo and lots more!
~ Playing for the first time ~
When you first load the game you can choose to sync it to facebook or not. I decided to do this as it would be easier when creating games with people who are actually on my facebook. It gave me a list of people on my facebook who also has the app and gave me the choice whether I wanted to start a game with them or not. I decided to start a game with a friend of mine who was on facebook so I clicked on her to begin a game. There was a list of three words in which I had to choose one to drawer. Each word is worth a different amount of coins, this starts from one and goes up to three. If that person guesses your picture both you and them will be awarded with that number of coins which correspond to the picture you choose to drawer. I chose the 2nd word on the list which was Homer. This then took me to the drawing screen, where there are 3 colours to choose from including Black, Red, Blue & Yellow. You can also choose the size of the nib you are using as well from very thin to fat. There is an eraser at the bottom of the screen so you can erase any mistakes that you make. The screen on my phone is quite sensitive anyway so I didn't have any issues when trying to draw the picture as it seemed to pick up what I wanted to draw very easily. As there are no green or other colours there you do have to just improvise a little using a different colour for the green. Once you have drawn the picture simply click done and it will send a notification to that person stating that it's now their go to play. After you have completed a drawing you will get adverts which are the downside to this game as on my phone you can't seem to skip the adverts and this sometimes makes the game freeze. How-ever on the iPhone my boyfriend can simply skip the adverts with no problems.
At the beginning of the game you will notice a bomb symbol, which can help you when guessing your other players picture. If you hit the bomb symbol, this will take away some of the words enabling you to have less words to choose from to try and guess the picture. As you guess each other pictures it will number the turns and note whether you have a new record or not. For example me and my boyfriend have had 21 turns and have managed to guess each others pictures (no cheating involved). If someone doesn't guess the picture and chooses to pass then the turn starts back at one again and you won't have been awarded any extra coins. The coins can eventually be used to purchase more colours for the game as you are limited in colours when you first play the game. How-ever I am led to believe that you need a lot of coins for this. Of course you can choose to buy coins using a debit/credit card which also gives you longer lists of items to choose from and you can buy more bombs.
~ Disadvantages to the game ~
* Adverts which don't seem to skip on my phone despite un-installing and reinstalling the app 2-3 times.
* The game often freezes.
* The game often misses goes. I had to drawer 3 different pictures before my boyfriend received a notification saying it was his go.
~ Advantages ~* Get creative drawing pictures
* Buy more colours and other items
* Entertaining seeing the pictures your other players have drawn
~ Overall Opinion ~
This game is great fun when it loads properly and when it doesn't freeze. At first I thought that this may have been a problem with my phone personally, how-ever a lot of people seem to be having the same problems with not being able to skip adverts and the game freezing and also missing turns. I only play this game a few times a week, as the problems with it do put me off. I know this game was very popular when it first came out, how-ever it doesn't seem to be as popular anymore due to all the problems people have with the app. I would recommend it to others as a creative and fun game to play every now and then. Due to all the problems I have had with this app I can how-ever only give it 2 out of 5 stars. If this was improved then I would gladly give it the more stars it really deserves!
