What is it: Reference Guide/Tracking app for Modern Warfare 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
Anyone who likes video games has probably heard of Modern Warfare 2, the follow-up to the hugely popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This app is a great resource for tracking your progress with the in-game Challenges, Titles, Emblems, Achievements, Accolades and Streaks, as well as having detailed reconstructions of the multiplayer maps (only the original maps are currently included, perhaps the 10 new maps which have been released for Xbox 360 and PS3 (5 only so far) will be added in a future release).
Note: The app is not a game in itself!
Note: No internet connection required (this explains the quite large file size)
As things like Emblems and Titles are often directly linked to Challenges, by marking off any one of these within the app, the corresponding others will be automatically marked off as well.
Within the Challenges section, you can find a lot of useful information, such as which features of each weapon are unlocked by completing certain challenges (number of kills, etc.). In the same section, you can see the attributes of each weapon in the game (accuracy, damage, range, fire rate and mobility). Those are viewable within the MW2 game itself but easier to see in this app. Similarly, in the Perks section of Challenges, you can find information about what you need to achieve to unlock the pro version of all perks and what the basic and pro versions actually do.
The maps are nice-to-have, showing respawn points and which buildings are accessible, etc. but I don't find them that useful because the iPhone screen is quite small. Even though the maps are zoomable, they're still a little too small to be of much use (iPad optimised version please, Meek is Murder!).
I wouldn't say this is an essential app if you play MW2 but it's a really nicely designed, stable app which will appeal to the obsessive completists in the gaming world.
