Songpop (iPhone App)
Advantages: Multiplayer good, designed well, fun to play for a music fan
Songpop is yet another free app that I have found while browsing the App store. I do listen to quite a few genres of music , so do quite like the guess the song kind of games, mainly because I tend to be able to win them quite a lot.
It is free to download from the App store, and I don't think it has an age rating. As long as you are interested in music or actually know quite a bit about song names, then this is probably a great game to play.
The main aim of the game itself is to guess 5 songs the fastest before another player. This player may be either a Facebook friend or a random player the game will find for you (personal details don't need to be worried about as they can't see any information about you except your first name). The game will give you 3 types of genres to pick from when you first start out e.g. classic rock, rap or today's hits, you pick one and then will be given clips of songs. At any point during the song clip, you must pick the correct song title or who sings it, trying to guess the fastest than the other to gain points.
The 'currency' of the game is gold coins that you collect whether you win or lose, 3 if you win a challenge and 1 if you lose. These coins can be used to buy new genre playlists, which can get quite addicting trying to collect them all. But I guess this is just a plus point to the game, as it does keep you motivated to play it as it takes a while for them all to add up.
There has also been the addition of achievements, which are all quite difficult to obtain as they do require quite a bit of playing, but this is a plus as it kept me wanting to play. Every week there is also the weekly tournament, so it means there is more motivation to try and beat the opponents.
The graphics on the game are not too bad, granted they are just texts and the backgrounds however it looks very crisp and professional. The loading times aren't bad for the game and I've never had any glitches with it. At the end of every song, there is the option to buy the songs from the clips you've heard off iTunes which I would have liked to do, but for some reason it always fails on my iPad and says I'm not in the right country for it. This might just be because its an American game, but who knows.
Overall, this is a pretty decent game to play if you are a fan of music, as it has kept me entertained for a long time and does manage to keep you motivated to play. The best part about this I have to say is that it is free and has managed to actually help me find more bands and music through just small clips.
Summary: A good game for music fans.
