My friend had an iPad and brought it into work one day to show all as she was so excited about it.
She had bought the talking Carl App and from the beginning it had us in hysterics!
Basically it is an application which will record what is said and then say it back to you in a funny voice. Very simple, very childish but oh so much fun!!
We decided to play a little trick on one of our colleagues and hid the iPad under some paperwork just before the briefing and set talking Carl to work.
Our colleague come into the room and everytime she spoke, Carl repeted everything she said in the funniest voice. She had no idea what was going on, the rest of us were in fits of laughter on the floor.
One of the best pranks we have played on another colleague before!!
The app was free when it was purchased so you can not complain really!!
There are other app similar to this and we have tried them all too but this one seems to repeat things better than the others. It only has a certain length of time to listen to you a record what you are saying and it will record anything that is said in the back ground too!
The screen has a little red blob charactor which is fun to watch too, he acts like he is listening to you when recording and moves in acordance to what is said. You can also beat the blob charactor up!!! just by tapping the screen the poor little blob falls backwards! Needless to say our colleague did this to not just the blob when she realised what was going on!!
Talking Carl is an iPhone application which is available to purchase from the App store for just 59p. I decided to buy this application after seeing it on a friends phone and deciding that it would be funny for my nieces and nephews to have some fun with.
This application is very simple in that it is a little animated character, you open the application and then he will listen to things that you say and repeat them back to you. When Carl repeats it back it is in a high pitched voice. When Carl is listening to you he is standing there holding a little red hand to the side of his red square face and this shows that he is listening to you. When Carl repeats things back to you he will open his mouth wide and change his expressions so that it looks like he is actually saying the things that he is repeating back to you.
Carl can also be tickled or poked and he will laugh or get very upset with this. My nephew seems to like poking his eye in particular as then you can watch it close and Carl makes a noise like he is being hurt.
Overall I would say that this is a very funny application that can give you fairly limitless fun depending on what you do or say with it. My nephew loves saying funny phrases as high as he can and then Carl will repeat them back at a ridiculously high pitched voice giving him lots of laughs and keeping him entertained for many minutes each time he plays with Carl.
There are lots of quirky little sounds that Carl makes when you poke and prod him but these do become repetitive quite quick, however, you might hit the same place several times and not end up with the same noise coming out each time with makes things a little bit more random.
One of the more popular things to do with this in our household is to open it up and then leave it on the side in a room, then once someone comes in and says something Carl will mock them in his high pitched tone and leave the person, initially, wondering where that voice has come from and who is mocking them.
My nephew, in particular, loves doing this numerous times around the house when I let him play with my iPhone and it just makes me laugh every time as he is so funny yet so predictable so I actually find myself saying things loudly just so Carl can pick them up and make my nephew chuckle.
It's fair to say that this application is very simple to use as my nephew was only just 5 when I first let him play on it and he picked it up with no problems at all. You simply open the application and Carl will begin copying everything that you say. I do find that you need to give him a few seconds to pick everything up and to stop listening once you have finished your sentence or words but this is to be expected as almost nothing is instantaneous in life, particularly something that only cost 59p!
This app costs 79cent and consists of a little red guy called Carl who repeats everything you say to him in a cute squeaky voice. If you touch him he growls and shouts. It can be great fun for adults and kids!
I have often discovered my two year old daughter chatting away to him like he was a friend. So cute! She is an only child and he can be good company for her.
We have had laughs at work too imitating work colleagues. I thought this would be a stupid app but turns out is has brought many laughs!
I also have been able to stop my daughter whining in the back of the car by handing her Carl. He is really cute and looks 3d. I wish he had more facial expressions though.
He doesn't do much but repeat your voice and would be nice if he could record it maybe as a video to send on by email but as of yet there is nothing like this.
Talking Carl, an iphone app which had too much hype for something that does, well, not much really!
I had heard alot about Carl, he did seem rather amusing. I pondered on this descison and thought why not! He does show as the 2nd highest rated, paid entertainment application for the iphone.
For only 59 pennies I took my chance! Even though I paid a mere amount of money for Carl, I wish I hadn't!
A little red, square shaped character, called Carl. He repeats what you say - in his own funny little monster high pitched gruff tone (Which can be very amusing).
What else does he do?
Well, he laughs loudly when you tickle him.
Shouts when you poke or pinch him.
Starts muttering to himself if you leave him alone.
THAT IS IT! I am not joking!
There is nothing else to tell you! Oh, apart from, I have just closed the application on my phone, I got bored. He shouts "Bye, Bye!" In a funny voice, which did make me smile. But mostly because I was rid of him and free of his annoyance.
Ah, I feel much better now! :)
I really wish I COULD tell you more.
'Carl' searched in the dictionary means - A strong robust fellow!
Do I feel this suits this character? He is of a thick frame, not to be rude at all! LOL :)
He does appear to be a tad on the grumpy side too!
Who is Talking Carl made by? Well his mummy and daddy of course!!! Actually it is a company called Awyse.
Awyse are a company that makes, edit's and sells applications for Smartphones.

NOT recommended for iPod touch. The reason for this is because not all iPod Touch's have a mic with earphones. You need mic for voice recognition to talk to Carl.
There are 4934 Ratings on the app store for Talking Carl, the total rating comes to 4.5 stars.
I have looked at this and most people absolutely love the app! However, there is another who shares the same opinion as me "I can't believe I've just wasted 59p!" (quoted from app store review for Talking Carl).
I am glad I am not alone in this :)
On the app info it states 'Talking Carl is hours of laughs for children of any age" - This I disagree with! Smaller children might find Carl too noisy and boisterous.
My little boy, who is 3 screams at Talking Carl! He obviously dislikes Carl! And no hours of laughs!!!
The graphics are really good. Clouds move very smoothly in the background. I have seen no 'jerking' in movement of animation on the screen, it is all very fluid. The colours are lovely and bright, it is nice to look at.
The sound is great! so clear. Character voice is very funny and guaranteed to give you a giggle!
Game Play is extremely limited. Once you have poked Carl in the eye to hear him shout in pain, thats all the fun over and done with! I am not a person who likes to inflict hurt at all! I am very placid, but how I wish to torture Carl more!
The best part is when you exit the app and you hear Carl shout Goodbye. Perhaps this is because you are then irritation free! :)
Cost. I can't understand why this is a chargeable app, I really don't and I wish I would have saved my hard earned cash! 59p may only be a small amount, but it is far too much for what you are getting, or perhaps what you are NOT getting in this case.
Character. Carl's character is quite strong. He is a grumpy little cuboid, who is easily aggravated - which seems to be transfered on to me, as I am very angered when playing this. Perhaps because I regret paying for this!
Carl shouts and grumbles alot. He is like a little miserable old man inside your iphone.
I am probably being quite mean about Carl as his voice is funny and gave me a little giggle, but that was the only joy I got from this application.
Durability. The instant you download this, if on same opinion as me, you will probably delete it! This is an app you will very quickly tire of. It has no lifespan. No longevity.
I don't think there is anything that could improve this game for me. Yes, there is hardly anything to do and I do begrudge purchasing this application.
Even if there was more Carl could do, or more you could do to Carl, I am still irritated my his character.

I rated this 1 out of 5 stars sheerly for app useage or complete lack of it!
WOULD I RECOMMEND?
Absolutely not! A true waste of money and a total waste of time. I care NOT for Carl!

Talking Carl is an application available for the iPhone or iPod Touch. You can download it easily either through the iTunes app store on your computer or through your app store on your iPhone or iPod. It is really quick to download and you are able to use it within minutes.
I first discovered Talking Carl when my Dad showed me the application after he had downloaded it onto his iPhone. I thought it was hilarious and the look of the application is so appealing, so for a mere 59p I decided to give it a go.
Carl is a big bright red square with bulging eyes and a wide mouth. He sits on lush green grass with a bright blue sky in the background. Carl basically repeats whatever you say into the microphone in a squeaky voice and when you laugh, he laughs right back at you! You can poke him in the eye, which he's not keen on (and his whimper makes me feel quite guilty when I do this!) and you can tickle him to make him laugh as well.
The application does have its limitations, as it doesn't really have any other features and once the novelty has worn off it is likely to become one of those apps you rarely open. However, it is great to entertain children with - my niece and nephew loved it! So, at such a great price I still think it is worth buying for a bit of fun and as a great addition to your iPhone or iPod Touch. It's hard not to love this cute little character!
Ive had this app for a little while now and when i bought it, it cost 59p and was near the top of the paid for apps, even now its still in the top ten which shows that it is a very popular app with 3131 ratings and a 4 star overall rating.
I was unsure what excatly it was about until i bought it but i tend to buy the cheap apps if they appear to be quite popular just to see how good they are. Basically though, talking carl is a big red square thing with two big bulgy eyes who sits in the middle of the screen with a nice sunny outdoor scene behind him. All sounds very boring, and it is, until you start to play with him.
You can poke him and tickle him and he reacts in different ways depending on what you do, initailly this is funny, but soon gets quite boring, so the second feature of talking carl is really what makes it so funny. He will repeat everything you say in a high pitched voice which just sounds hilarious. With one person it again gets boring after a while, but if you have a group of people it will pick up on various voices and keep repeating lots of the conversations going on at the time. It gets to a point where you just cant talk anymore without laughing because he copies you every time.
I used it the other night during a poker night and it always recieves a good reaction, which I think for 59p represents good value for money as it makes so many people smile.
I think overall it is a completely useless app, and most of the time you will not use it. However, in those group situations where you just want to make people smile, then for the small fee of 59p, it is well worth it for the reactions it recieves.
I read about this iPhone app on the Guardian website and heard it was great for keeping kids entertained. At only 59p I thought I'd give it a try and I haven't regretted it.
"Carl" basically records and repeats what has just been said to him, but with more or less the same effect on your voice as sucking in helium, i.e. higher pitched.
It is most effective on someone who hasn't come across it before, who may wonder why you're waving your phone in their face, but once they speak and hear Carl repeat in a silly high pitched tone what has just been said, much hilarity ensues, as everything that is said/laughed for the next few minutes is then repeated back by Carl. We had a couple of friends round for dinner the other night and one of them was asking about my iPhone and I showed them this app, and they couldn't stop laughing at one another for the next 5 minutes or so.
It's particularly great with kids although I now face a battle to stop them walking off with my expensive phone - my 2 year old son sounds particularly hilarious, although has cottoned on now and tends not to speak when "Talking Car", as he calls him, appears.
Carl also responds to being poked ("ow, ooh!" etc) and tickled on the touch screen and the kids like that too.
Sometimes the mike doesn't clearly pick things up but I'm not sure if that's the software or my iPhone.
Well worth buying at the price.
Talking Carl is an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch, the application is a voice transformer and simply repeats what you say in a squeaky voice. My friend has an iPhone (I'd love one but saving all my pennies for travelling). I was at his house last night and he decided to download the Talking Carl application from the iTunes website, it appealed to him due to its bright colours and it was only 59p, we had nothing to lose!
So once Carl had downloaded we opened his application, there was Carl this cute red square creature with two bulgy eyes. Carl looks very happy in his sunny little outdoor habitat, he doesn't really do much until you start to interact with him. Carl is very easy to interact with you simply say something into the iPhone/iTouch (earphones with microphone needed for the iTouch) and Carl repeats you straight after in quite a squeaky voice. It sounds a little like someone on helium but funnier, when Carl speaks to you he opens his big square mouth wide and you can see his little tonsils, he is a very cute little fella! You can poke Carl in various places like his eyes to make him say 'Awww!' or in the mouth to say 'Argh!'
Myself and my friend found Carl very amusing, we downloaded him at 11.30pm and were probably quite sleep delirious by now though. We would use Carl to say daft things to each other, all very childish I know! It was very hilarious at the time though, I loved how Carl's voice was very high pitched and squeaky when I spoke to it, but when my male friend spoke to him his voice became quite gruff. A list has been made of funny things that we can say to friends using Carl and I think he will surface once or twice a week but probably not a daily app!
The only slight critism that I might have is that Carl doesn't necessarily have a lot of features, maybe he could dance when he talks or perhaps say random things himself. But I find it very hard to complain for the 59p that was spent on him, I found Talking Carl good value for money.
I think for the amount of laughs that myself and my friend had last night Talking Carl was definitely worth the 59p spent on him. I do warn you though, myself and my friend are very easily amused so you may not have as much fun with Carl as we did. I do recommend him though if you have an iPhone or iTouch.
Talking Carl is an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch that lets you say things to it and then it will repeat them in a squeaky voice.
It first caught my attention because its bright colours were popping out of the home page on iTunes. So I looked into it further, the reviews were pretty good so I thought for £0.59 I might as well give it a try.
Talking Carl is very easy to interact with you simply say something into your iPhone or Touch (you'll need earphones with a mic for the Touch) and it will repeat is almost instantly after you've finished. You can also poke Carl in the eyes to make him yell "Awww" or you can drag his mouth open to make him say "Aaaaaaggghhhhh". That is basically all Talking Carl does. He also says "Bye Byeee" when you close it.
Overall Talking Carl does get boring very quickly, almost immediately in my case, but he can be "useful" sometimes if you want to make him say something funny, although you can get voice changer apps for free which have multiple voices, but aren't as clear as Carl. The interface is easy and the bright colours are nice to look at and could probably cheer you up if you're feeling a bit down. It's only 59p so it's hard to say it was a waste of money, could live without it though.
