Advantages: Extremely fast hard drive, will increase boot speed if you install operating system to it.
Disadvantages: Expensive, not much space for mass storage.
Let me start this review by explaining what a solid state hard drive actually is. A solid state hard drive isn't the same hard drive that you get in your computer, yes it is used for the exact same function however a solid state does not store its data on a disk, and it uses flash memory which is the whole solid state meaning. What you will find with this device is it writes to the hard drive much faster than a normal hard drive up to 30 times in fact, this makes it particularly useful for storing an operating system because it will load up considerably faster increasing start up speeds.
Now onto the Intel X25-M, this is only 120GB and that's because solid state drives don't have the storage capabilities that discs currently do. Another thing to mention early on is this is not cheap I picked this up for £140, so it's not a good upgrade option.
Out of the box this thing is really easy to install being just a simple plug and play, Intel do offer certain software to go with it but this is a matter of your own choice whether you want to install them or not.
I opted to use my device as an internal hard drive, I had it plugged in and running in a matter of minutes. I now currently have Windows 7 installed on the device and I notice a considerable difference when booting from this than a normal hard drive, so much of a difference in fact that just by simply using my computer many of my friends have chosen to do exactly the same thing.
Another benefit to solid state drives is that they have a lot more durability than discs and are supposedly supposed to last twice as long and can take a lot more of a battering before they decide to give out on you. This though is the least you would expect given the huge asking price for them, for now solid state drives are relatively unknown and too expensive for the average computer user but we do get a chance to see the speed that technology is taking us to and inevitably solid states will become the common storage device.
Summary: Solid state hard drives are the thing of the future we will certainly be seeing more of them.
