Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum eX: ... owned a series of Soundblaster cards (SB 16, 512, Live! 5.1) I had watched Creative fall behind other sound card manufacturers like Hercules and Aureal. Creative were still using the ageing EMU101K processor as the basis for even their newer cards like the Live! 5.1 which offered Dolby 5.1 connectivity for PC owners with suitable 5.1 speakers systems (5 satelites and 1 sub woofer). Sound cards have tak...

jdidlock Wavefinder interactive digital radio
... Cridland's entry is so exhaustive that I have little to add! I have been trying to get one of these beasts to work for 2 weeks now, my next step in getting "Cyclops" to work is to get an outside aerial installed (or should that be outstalled?) A few points, though. Although you can record direct from the application in, as you say, MP2 pr MP3, there is no reason why you shouldn't use whatever recorder you normally use and so end up with an editable .WAV file. Both MP2 and MP3 are encoded at 192kbps which, in MP3 terms, makes them a bit big - represents a compression ratio of about 7:1. Regarding the software, there are 2 alternative versi...

tedloon Creative Sound Blaster Live! Platinum
... bought a new computer a few months ago, and as I am an audio fanatic, and the new SoundBlaster Live Platinum was out, I decided that I would stump up the extra cash and get one installed. When I got home, I plugged the computer in and connected up my speakers (via my sound system), and popped in a CD. Wow, I was absolutely amazed with the quality! I have used the card for editing music and the break-out box on the front of the computer has made this much easier. I can plug in my quitar, keyboard, CD-player, tape player, minidisc player, record player, television etc. and it copes with them all. The Steinberg Cubasis VST mixing package is useful although by no mean...

mark_scott Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum eX
... been bitten by the well known incompatibilities between the SB Live family of cards and Athlon motherboards, I was wary of buying the Audigy platinum. I had no reason to be worried however as it was literally a dream come true. Installing this card is not easy by any means, there are a lot of components to think about: the main card, a smaller daughter card, an external breakout box and a monolithic cable. It will take you a good half hour at least to set it all up. The monolithic cable houses the signals for MIDI, SPDIF and Optical digital out as well as RCA and Mike. It also deals with firewire. thats right, the Audigy has firewire built in. however...
