This is a negative review, I have had a SoundBlaster Live in my system for too long and now it is gone. Forever. The software that comes from the card is mainly junk. LOTS of it, The drivers fought with the VIA chipset on the motherboard, it fought with the mouse causing zipper-noise if moved. It dictates is own simple conversion on all incoming audio which is hard-coded in the chipset. It contributed to ground loop noise when connecting a TV card with an electrical cable. The noise figures on the spec were not realised no matter how it was connected. Now it’s not all that bad, when the card was bought there was not much competition and the sample-rate remix fiasco wasn’t generally known. However, I now have a TRUST 514DX which has replaced this card for £20. It’s quieter by far, no hum, mouse noise, and what I put in is what gets written to the hard disk. No 70Meg junk install and pup-up / down bars, latency 10 times quicker than the creative just seals the door. If you are tied to Soundfounts or 3D gaming then fine, carry on, but audio use, nah, it’s in the drawer.
