      Does the job nicely/

I was recommended this sound card by a music shop, to whom I specifically asked for a card that will be rock solid and not prone to error.
Well they weren't wrong. I've been using this for years both on PC's and mac and it is the most rock solid card I've ever used with Logic.
The monitoring is first class, with barely noticable latency. This is a much harder review to write because when these soundcards work, you barely notice them, and therefore I find there is very little to say.
I keep mine set up permanently at home, and use it primarily for recording bass and analog synths. The jacks take both xlr and balanced/unbalanced 1/4" jacks, and theres plenty of outputs here too.
The build quality means this is quite a heavy unit for its size - a consideration if you run a portable studio setup.

A sensible choice for the studio.

Buy it if you can find it for £200

I have been using this neat little firewire interface with my laptop, cubase, reason and logic pro successfully for 3 years. The FA-66 is a nifty (and very light) portable firewire interface that has two (mic and jack combination) inputs on the front and a further two red/white inputs on the back (for decks etc).

This interface is great for a small startup home studio if you want to record guitar and vocals or a similar combination. I would reccomend shopping around before you buy this and find out whether you need the firewire instead of USB as this will cost you more. The FA-66 should only cost you £200 if you buy it from the right place so maybe don't buy it for £290 on amazon.

The FA-66 is superfast and has never let me down. It installs ridiculously easily on macs but is slightly more complicated with PCs (although I have used it successfully with both). Another feature is that it can process at up to a sample rate of 192. It also has 4 outputs (in pairs of two Left and Rights) this means that you can do some quite complex studio work with this box.

The FA-66 has phantom power which allows you to run 48v powered condenser microphones. This is a must when recording high quality vocals or acoustic guitar without a pick up.
